K-Pop A-Z Review: EXO – Let Out The Beast

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Let Out The Beast (from XOXO / Growl – 2013)

Let Out The Beast is the kind of track that screams “dance performance.” Built around a high-energy r&b beat with tense strings and insistent chirps of synth, Beast is as much a rap showcase as it is a pop song. Its melody is structured fully around the beat, including a staccato pre-chorus that offers a touch of the harmonic layering that characterizes EXO’s core sound. The song fractures two thirds of the way through, morphing into a bombastic, dubstep-infused breakdown that carries through until its finale. These climactic moments are particularly galvanizing. You can just imagine the performance moving off the stage, into the audience, and successfully getting everyone up off their feet.

  1. I just realized the next week of EXO’s A-Z is going to be absolutely loaded. I’m expecting.. a 10 for Love Me Right, at least 9 for Lucky, maybe 9/10/9/10 for Machine, same for Mama, 10/8/9/9 for Miracles in December? Anyhow, this will be exciting.
