Winter Heat (from For Life – 2016)

With all the winter songs EXO have recording, I feel like I’ve said all I can say about this kind of track. Winter Heat’s dynamic percussion allows it to stand out a bit, with each chorus adopting a funky, 90’s throwback rhythm. Elsewhere, the track is EXO mid-tempo by the numbers, buttressed by airy harmonies that disguise a barely-there melody. I would have loved for the track to lean more into the excitement of its hook, which points toward a very SHINee-esque dance floor-filler — kind of like a restrained, seasonal version of View.
