SUMMER OF K-POP: Astro – Dream Night

There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.

There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.

So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Astro – Dream Night (2017)

In addition to being one of my favorite K-pop albums of the last few years, Astro’s Dream Part.01 is perfectly suited to the summer. Dream Night is one of its many highlights, offering an upbeat but mysterious sound that draws heavily from the tropical synth trends of its era. The verses pulse with a slowly-building atmosphere, well-matched with cool summer nights around the campfire, while its percolating chorus is more suited to the dance floor. It may not be one of the group’s catchiest melodies, but Dream Night’s percussive drive has aged well.

  1. Dream Part.01 is one of my favorite minis/albums in K-Pop, so I’d still rate it about the same even though Dream Night is my least favorite of the bunch!

      • It shouldn’t be coming from my end, though WordPress does has its quirks so I wouldn’t be surprised if they suddenly changed things. I know how attached you are to your icon, though! 🙂
