K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – Zig Zag

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with f(x)’s A-Z reviews here!

Zig Zag (from Electric Shock – 2012)

Zig Zag is a percussive beast, throwing all its weight behind the robust set of rhythmic elements that make up most of its instrumental. Even the swoops of distorted synth have a percussive drive. And rather than offer a contrast, f(x)’s vocals join the party, arranged in staccato melodies that feel robotic and almost monotone in spots. This results in a track that can come across as a little cold, though the frenetic chorus brings a needed sense of energy to the herky-jerky structure. I wish that Zig Zag would have changed things up even more in places, though it’s an undeniably cool track.
