Ultimate K-pop Summer Song Match-Up: Girls’ Generation vs. Girl’s Day

Song Of Summer Match-UpCongratulations to f(x)’s Hot Summer! It was a tight match yesterday, but the girls edged it out with 52.8% of the vote. That’s three SM victories in a row! Will we have another after this round?

Today, it’s the battle of the girls. Literally. Will they have a day… or a whole generation?? It’s Girls’ Generation’s 2015 comeback single Party vs. Girl’s Day’s 2014 track Darling.

Both of these songs are supported by quintessential summer concepts, but they take their inspirations from different eras. Darling takes a more old-school approach, while Party embraces the breezy pop of the early 2010’s. But, only one track can move onto the next round. The choice is up to all of you. Feel free to advocate, cheerlead, cut deals, etc in the comments section!

The vote is open for twenty-four hours, and the winner will be celebrated in tomorrow’s bracket post.

Candidate One: Girls’ Generation – Party

Candidate Two: Girl’s Day – Darling

  1. First time actively listening to either song. The Girls Generation song sounds a bit too on-the-nose in its chorus riffing on an early 2010s song (Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA” maybe), so Girl’s Day gets my vote.

And first time poster, though a reader of the blog since Dec. 2020.

  2. Just looking at the previous bracket and seeing Red Flavour being pitted against View… my heart is not looking forward to that decision!

My vote still goes to SM for this round. Party really lives up to its name.

  3. This one is hard. P-A-R-T-Y is annoying but besides the chorus I can’t recall anything else about girl’s day darling. I’m inclined to pick SNSD because of my bias towards them. But I’m gonna pick darling based on the song not having anything annoying in it

  4. Right now it’s SNSD,tomorrow it’s SNSD, forever it’s SNSD!

Easy pick (sadly, I don’t have a Twitter account anymore and can’t vote).

  5. SNSD is definitely my favorite of the two groups, and Party definitely screams summer. I also appreciate that my bias Sunny has more than one line in it lol. However, I think I also gotta go with Darling as objectively it is a stronger and more interesting song in my opinion. I won’t be shocked if Party ends up winning today though!

  6. I’m torn on this one. I prefer Darling to Party however I don’t see Darling as a summer song. So I don’t know if I should vote for my favorite or for the one that works better as a summer song… I expect Party to pull ahead so I’m gonna vote Darling either way.

  7. So, I cannot tell as I don’t have Twitter, but I expect this to be the closest competition yet. Unlike all the others, neither of these songs are classics. I think I personally would go with Party. I prefer Darling conceptually, but I rarely come back to it for whatever reason, same with Party. Thus, Party as it is more summery.

Congrats to Hot Summer, glad to be proven wrong!

  8. Darling is the stronger song of the two, no doubt about that….but I never associated it with summer.

Party is iconic for me. I’d say it’s a guilty pleasure but I don’t feel guilty about it. Yes, it’s a little generic. Yes, it sounds like a song from a Barbie or Disney Channel movie.. but I listen to those songs too, unironically!

Whenever I want to get into a summer mood, Party is one of the first songs I look for – my vote is easily decided.

  9. Honestly SNSD’s Party gives me Twice’s Dance the Night away vibe. It’s way too disney/ barbie for me. Was this really popular that year?

Anyways, Darling wins this one for me.

  10. Didn’t think I’d do this, since I had never heard “Darling” before but remember when “Party” came out, but… I’m going to have to go with Girl’s Day on this one. Honestly, there’s nothing special/unique enough about “Party” enough to make me choose it. And the chorus of “Darling” is catchier. If you had chosen “All Night,” it would be a totally different story, but, alas.

  11. I don’t know if this was elaborated (or I just have no idea about how brackets visually work) but what are the numbers on the left of the song? (the leftmost list has 1-16 with UP10’s song being #1)

    • It’s just the order in which I pulled the tracks. And then, I guess the bracket generator randomly assigns them a place? I don’t really know either lol
