It’s been awhile since we’ve heard Ailee’s immense vocals, especially on something other than a ballad. But today, she’s made a long-awaited return and brought bombastic dancefloor drive with her.
Ra Ta Ta takes EDM, hip-hop and Latin elements and throws them into a blender. It’s at its best when firing on all cylinders. Ailee’s voice sounds great over a thumping beat, matching the intensity with a confidence that bursts out of the speaker. Ra Ta Ta‘s hook may be a bit one-note, but that note is delivered with gusto. The second half of the chorus recalls memories of past glories while the titular hook feels much trendier. Rapper Lil Cherry appears for a brief, forgettable verse but overall this is definitely The Ailee Show.
Though Ra Ta Ta easily appeals on first listen, I’m a bit worried how it will hold up. Its repetition may wear thin, even as the energy of the instrumental remains exciting.

the chorus is repetitive but the instrumental is too good which makes me like it. the rap was grating and unnecessary, though.

Not as much of a fan, probably because it is the nth Ratatata song in kpop.
The rest of it sounds like an Alexa song. … Did Alexa already do a “Ratata” song?

I like Rattata the Pokemon. But in the realm of k-pop, I run from “ratata” songs like my life depended on it, with the sole exception of NewJeans’ Ditto when they sang “ra ta ta ta ullin simjang, ratatata~.”
