The other day, I took a retrospective look at Mamamoo’s debut track Mr. Ambiguous. It was a fun trip down memory lane, but it also reminded me that it’s been years since I’ve really connected to one of their songs. That includes solo work. The ladies are so talented and charismatic, but their recent music has struggled to match those charms. Might the title track from member Wheein’s first full album turn the tide?
In The Mood paints a groovy tapestry, pitching Wheein’s smooth, skilled vocal over a subdued beat. Bass and rhythm guitar give the track bounce, though the energy remains chill throughout. I like the switch-up in verse two, but apart from that moment the song could do with more variation. Its melodies are quite one-note and Wheein sounds like she’s ready to burst from those confines and deliver something more dynamic. Like so much of the group’s recent work, there’s just not enough ambition fueling this song. It washes over you in a pleasant haze, impossible to dislike but difficult to love.

its so weird sometimes… she has such a lovely voice, but i can’t really connect with her music the same way. welp, at least she’s making the music that she wants to

i have no idea why this was chosen as the title track? it’s one of my least liked tracks off in the mood. tbh the album is pretty decent. 17, Spark and Bite Me are all solid tracks imo

It is as if everyone is afraid of offending anyone, anywhere on this entire planet at any time. Thanks, social media!

I like the song, but you’re right, it breezes through so easily that it’s hard to feel pulled into it enough to love it. I do really like hearing the bass guitar like that. I feel like a strong bridge part could’ve made the difference for me, it could have been that element that would make me want to go back to the track more often.

I really wish that some of these idols could take a bolder approach. It’s ok to be mellow sometimes, but I don’t want too many mellow songs. I want to hear them sing their heart out in an upbeat song full of melodies, showstopping choruses and just having a good time!

people are so annoying these days, I found so song really good me personally. it was funky, groove and fun. probably would have been better if it was a summer release but I don’t mind it, I still love it. it was way better than make me happy.
