ENHYPEN’s Fatal Trouble is part of a “special album” tied to their Dark Moon storyline. This series comprises music videos, webtoons and web novels. It may be lost on those of us who are casual fans, but these days every K-pop group needs to have lore and ENHYPEN’s apparently includes vampires, werewolves and blood alters. You need to be invested to make sense of it all, and the group’s acolytes will likely wring more from Fatal Trouble than I can.
HYBE seems to love these broody rock ballads. At their best, they offer a cathartic shot of emotion tied to epic melodies. But too often, they’re just kind of angsty for the sake of angst. Fatal Trouble could have been recorded by any of the agency’s acts to similar effect. As an OST to this Dark Moon universe, I suppose it paints mood well. But as a song itself, it feels quite dull.
At just under three minutes, Fatal Trouble is also robbed of the chance to blossom into its full potential. A song like this calls for a dramatic climax, but the guys simply trudge along the same limp arrangement. The chorus offers some drama, but even here the sluggish production counteracts its effusive energy.

Yet again, the shortest track on the album is the title track lol. i didnt like this at all. It just sounds like they are trying to remake criminal love/given taken/bite me and its meh. Also I feel like Enhypen loves to utilize this falsetto chant in every title track. This song needs more, like you said, climax and drama. The album has some nice qualities though!! Some songs sound super new and some dont. Scream is such a nostalgic sounding track.

I Loved it. Art is subjective. You are entitled to your opinion. But I give it an A+. The author gave it a C. Again, I disagree. To me its poetic lyrical sound is Stunningly Exquisite. The choreography perfect matches its contemporary ballet like genre. I hope others speak up who loved it like me. Ive followed them since Day 1 of ILand. I think they’ve set an even higher level of performance with this song. Bravo! Applause! Standing Ovation!

what the hell are u talking about😭 the only close song to this could be criminal love, but even then you’re overexaggerating

As a child of the emo/scene era, “angsty for the sake of angst” was exactly my taste in music for so many years! I do quite like this, but the shortness and lack of a climax do hurt it. They did a good job of wringing emotions out in the chorus, so it feels like they’re kind of being sold short without a chance to truly unleash at the end.

This song is produced by Slow Rabbit. I think if this song was given to TXT, you would rate it at least 8. I found it pretty similar to TXT’s rock songs, but sung by Enhypen

Lmao this sounds more like an enhypen song than a txt song. Still dont understand why people keep using the “if x made this you would rate it higher” argument. What is your point?

I second that. That song has true Enhypen colors

I understand that everyone would said “Oh thats like Enhypen’s song” when they heard gloomy songs but no, Enhypen songs are not that mellow. Enhypen songs, especially the title tracks, have always been more to upbeat dark, vampirish, songs that you would hear at club. Songs that makes you want to dance instead of sing.
Why I said Fatal Trouble sounds more like TXT, other than Slow Rabbit as the producer, this song sounds like someone went through emo phase and 5 divorces. And TXT’s songs (post 2020) pretty much sounds like that.

Nahh Slow Rabbit have been working with Enhypen since Sweet Venom and these songs are very much not like Enhypen but more to TXT. Teeth and Scream are what Enhypen sounds like, it’s like Drunk-Dazed and Tamed-Dashed. While Lucifer is new, maybe just a little bit like Chaconne.
Why are you sound so pressed when I said that? Its not a secret that Nick loves TXT so I would think if this song was given to TXT, it would rated higher, especially for the “bias” scoring. Mans gave Chasing That Feeling, the most boring song of TXT, at least 8 or something I dont really remember. I just think Fatal Trouble sounds just like that song it’s dull and boring but I can’t believe it’s lower than Chasing That Feeling 😭

Fatal Trouble sounds nothing like ctf… I agree that Chasing That Feeling was boring, as a moa, BUT.
So, what is your point again.
Nope, Im not pressed either, sorry if I sounded hostile its just the second time ive heard this weird response in this blog only this week.

I explained that Nick clearly likes and has bias to TXT so he would rate the group’s songs higher and then asked me again whats my point like??? What do you want to know more? I swear its not that deep 🥱

And then I proceeded to tell you that he rated enhypens songs higher than txts… your point is just untrue

Disagree. Enhypen are one of the only kpop groups right now that are differentiating themselves sonically from the rest of the bgs, and it’s bc their branding is very strong. Fatal trouble is a song only enhypen can release, and while slow rabbit is txt’s producer, it is not a txt song.
You said enhypen tends to release more dance music. A quick flick through their discography will show you how versatile it is. It’s why polaroid love and future perfect can be in the same album. It’s why they can debut with given taken and have 10 months in the same album.
And yes maybe Nick is biased towards txt but the blog is called the bias list. From what I’ve seen he tends to prefer lighter songs anyway. If I remember correctly, he hated sacrifice eat me up but loved enhypen’s pokemon song.

I’ve listened to Enhypen discography since their debut so I know all their songs. Yes they’re different and unique than the majority of kpop groups doing right now in term of concept and song (moving towards refreshing, tiktok easy listening songs), especially Enhypen got their signature Vampire theme since debut.
While Fatal Trouble got the mysterious and dark vibes of Enhypen, but the way they sing, the melodies, and instrumental really reminds me of TXT. I could literally imagine and heard TXT members singing the song. Also the members kinda sing longer in length in Sweet Venom and Fatal Trouble (Slow Rabbit prod), while they usually sing short & switching parts in majority of their songs.
In summary, I just think the overall vibes of Fatal Trouble is pretty much like Enhypen but the details of the songs are so much more like TXT’s.

For a song called “Fatal Trouble” I would have expected actual trouble that was, yanno, dangerous enough to be called fatal. Instead it sounds like they are hanging out on a couch with buddies watching something on TV on a lazy afternoon.

The title track is my favorite song from the album. I recommend you listen to the album. The album was so good. It was my first album from Enhypen.

To be really frank my ears are fatigued by the constant churning of songs by TXT, Enhypen, &team etc that basically are starting to sound all the same. Maybe release less songs but absolute hits like New Jeans did. And no this isn’t a stab at HYBE because of what happened, it’s just what I think and the digital charts prove that.

it’s just a confusing time all round for hybe bgs bc andteam is sounding like txt, txt no longer sounds like txt and honestly no longer has a definable sound, and slow rabbit has produced title tracks back to back for enhypen, txt and &t which exacerbates the problem.

Honestly I was shocked at this review and the comments…. I absolutely adore this song and I have been listening to it on repeat for ages… it’s just so good for me… like ENHYPEN were serving vocals in this song…. the MV is a little weird, but like whatever… I’ve watched a couple of their stages for this song and I adore them…. ENHYPEN, for me personally, are really on top of their game at the moment… my one complaint is the song is too short, I want to hear more (however I think this is just a result of the trend of songs getting shorter and shorter at the moment for god only knows what reason…. people say it’s tiktok, but this doesn’t sound like a song that was made for the sole purpose of trying to go viral on tiktok)

Also just came back here to say how much I like the song! When it first came out I was a tad indifferent to it, but as it kinda got crystalised, I think it’s one of Enhypen’s best singles until now, and I wish it was longer too.

It’s funny how everyone is saying how the song is sluggish, dull, and too angsty when most of these people don’t even fully understand the song in general and what it is about. (This was me at first.) I believe that if you wish to properly rate a song like Fatal Trouble which is an OST, experience the full package. By this I mean not only listen to the song, but comprehend the lyrics, and watch the performance with the choreo. That’s how it’s meant to be experienced. It’s not like regular song which comes from an album, it has a whole story behind it, which is why If you only listen to the song it will not make sense and you wont be able to enjoy it as much. When I listened to the song for the first time, it was a 7 for me. But after i experienced the full package (aka understanding lyrics, watching performance) it drastically changed my rating.
And also just for clarification, the song is about uncertainty and seeing an unfamiliar face behind a loved one (Enhypen to Sooha). It’s supposed to be a mysterious song. Hope this helps.
