Glow (from Time For Us – 2019)
GFriend never explored roller rink disco pop as often as they probably should have, but each and every effort is a standout. Their vocals lend themselves very well to this style, backed by shimmering synths and upbeat rhythms. Glow seems factory-made for summer, evoking carefree afternoons in the way Sistar’s music often did. The chorus here could be a bit stronger, but the warm production wraps it in enough aural sugar to keep the excitement high.

Ew… this song doesn’t do it for me. It’s probably the song on this album that I like least. It’s very repetitive.
Anyway, I had to reintegrate my YouTube Music playlist of the best of each year with some GFRIEND singles from mid-2015 to… I think 2017, because they reposted their songs, removing the SOURCE MUSIC label and placing the HYBE. The only ones that didn’t suffer from this were their 2020 albums.

I like this one a lot. The little synths going back and forth are fun, and I have to admit I’m a sucker for the processing they do on Sowon’s voice in the verses.
Is it their best work? No. Is “My sweety boo” a bad lyric? Yeah. If I saw them perform it live as a cooldown song between more popular songs, would I be psyched? Absolutely.

I don’t review every follow-up song if I’m too busy at the time or if I don’t have much to say about it. With this one, it was a combination of those two things.
