TXT: A Career In Song Ratings

I’m a person who loves data and loves classifying things. That has been a big part of this blog since its inception. Because of this, I’d like to test out a new feature that displays BIAS LIST data in a different way.

There are a number of groups who have debuted in the past decade and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

Ready to kick off “A Career In Song Ratings”? We’ll start with a group who made their most recent comeback this week.

  1. Honestly, for a group who is now in their 8th year, this isnt nearly as bad as I imagined. I do wish, with this current epidemic of 2 minute songs catered towards virality and streams, Bighit would return to the production quality pre- 2024. Idk what happened, the producers seem to be the same and I cannot imagine they just lost their touch within a year.

  2. Yay!! What an awesome new feature! 😀 I’d love to see one of these for Infinite. (Although maybe Nick is tired of writing about them… 😂)

Kara, Boyfriend, and 9Muses would be cool too

    • Any group whose whole discography has been rated on this blog will be first in line, but I’m not opposed to going back to older groups and assigned ratings for songs I haven’t reviewed in full.

      • Yeah in my excitement and poor reading comprehension skills I must have overlooked the part that said “there are a number of groups who have debuted in the past decade and have dozens of song ratings on this blog.” 😂

  3. As someone who loves statistics and charts, especially for music, this is so dope!

8.36 is actually a pretty solid score, though I guess we don’t have any other group to compare it with yet 😂

  4. I would imagine that ONF and Golden Child have rating averages above 9.5 considering their copious amounts of 9+ ratings. Infinite and EXO might be up there but they’ve been around for some time so it may be a bit lower.

For female acts, I’d say GFriend or SNSD likely have the highest averages. But groups like Ive could also be up there as well.

As far as new acts, I’d say TWS and Riize would top the list for obvious reasons. AHOF could also join the mix in about 3-5 years if they continue to release material as good as Rendezvous. Can’t also forget to mention The Wind but they don’t have any 10s yet. The lead girl group is probably Hearts2Hearts.

  5. the last few years have been so mixed I was expecting worse, but this seems very reasonable it retrospect. the main issue to me the whole time was that the songs are almost always solid but they could’ve been so much more.

#JusticeForPuma though I’ve loved that song since 2020. I hate bringing them up but it’s way better than any CORTIS song released and will release in the future. and Sugar Rush Ride is still their worst release for me no thanks to that abysmal chorus
