There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.
As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.
Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

Overall Trendline:

“Newton” is my favorite. A big bundle of sung through joy. Wonho was still a member which is a plus for me.
… I just had to look it up, only about 10 words in English, total. And a full 4:00 of run time, wow.

I’m really enjoying these retrospective rankings. But do you think a group with a very long career is at a disadvantage for overall ranking? It seems nearly every long term group has a slowly declining average curve. Maybe a side project would be to compare groups over the same time frame – say, first five years of their existence?

Yes, I think that’s definitely the case. More releases mean more chances to go wrong. It’s the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

Ah!! Dramarama basically got me into Kpop. Back when I only knew about MonstaX, Astro, Got7 and EXO.
I hold this group close to my heart and even though I’m not a fan of everything they do, I do LOVE 75% of their TT, and a whole bunch of bsides, including all of their English output.
PS: in reply to MYMAGOOGLE, “Newton” may be one of my favorite songs…bias is high, I know!

Fighter is a hidden gem from their title tracks nowadays, glad its rating has held up! It’s also amazing that a track rated that high only made it to the 30s in your year-end list, it shows how much k-pop and your blog have changed over time! It would be interesting to see how most of that list would shake up now, 2016 was a big and great turning point for k-pop. Too bad Hero wasn’t released as a title track (yet it’s their most viewed video on YT) it probably would’ve gotten them into an 8 average. Love Killa would be a 10 for my dad, he still brings it up every now and then lol
