Song Review: Park Jinyoung (GOT7) – Everlove

Whether he’s with the group or not, Park Jinyoung’s always going to have that “GOT7” tag next to his name so that we don’t mistake him for JYP founder Park Jinyoung. I know it’s a common name, but I still think it’s amazing that there were two of them in the same agency! This Park Jinyoung hasn’t been featured on the blog since 2023 with his single Cotton Candy. He’s finally back today with a new album.

Title track Everlove strikes a nice balance between the sentiment of a good ballad and the energy of a more upbeat anthem. It doesn’t go far enough in the latter direction for my taste, as the instrumental mostly stays out of the way with a soft, shimmering bit of synth pop, but the melodies have a nice drive that keeps the track chugging along.

Jinyoung’s voice is always a treat and he lends Everlove plenty of character. However, the song loses much of its momentum during the chorus. Even an influx of percussion doesn’t do much here. The hook is at once repetitive and undercooked, lacking the type of cathartic climax the verses seem to be setting up. This lack of payoff keeps Everlove from reaching its full potential. Instead, it settles for being a pleasant bit of background music.

  1. That’s a really nice vocal there. I wish it were attached to a better song.

(As for name, I know, two of them. How many Lee Min-ho’s are there in K-entertainment as well – Wikipedia in English lists 5 of them. THE Lee Min-Ho and 4 others who all have to use stage names. The same search in Hangul on the Korean pages list … a lot more.)
