I’m no fan of MEOVV’s latest mini album, as it abandons most of the sounds I enjoy from their past music. However, its third track In My Hands stuck out as the obvious highlight to me so I’m glad they’ve chosen to promote it with its own video.
Most of Bite Now is braggadocios bluster over reheated hip-hop beats. That’s about half of In My Hands as well, but its chorus pulls in a synth-heavy dance beat to underline the “empowering” platitudes. Do I wish the entire song sounded like this? Absolutely! In My Hands misses the chance to go full-on club from the start, but it pulls us out of the murk long enough to offer a pleasant distraction. MEOVV’s voices are rich with character and it’s nice to hear them sing. More than anything, In My Hands sounds like a bridge to better material in the future. More of this and less of DDI RO RI, please.

This is my only save from their last album. I don’t care for the lyrics and I’m kinda biased against them in general, but the song is well crafted. 7.5

this would have been an amazing song if the entire song sounded like the chorus

I actually hope that they release a remix version of the song with more focus on the chorus beat so we can actually go hard on the song without sludging through the boring verse first

Have to disagree with your Bite Now take. Only 2 of 5 songs are braggadocious songs… Hit Em isn’t as braggadocious as Ddi Ro Ri, it’s more like Body – IT girls saying yes we’re confident and ready to take on the world. While Ddi Ro Ri is posturing for posturing sake lol.
A lot of the instrumentation used is reminiscent of their past songs (ie: Hit Em – Burning Up, Toxic), mostly because Teddy is not that creative and always sticks to the same beats and samples lol. This album expands a lot on motifs and genres they’ve done before with the MEOW album. Revenge is the Toxic counterpart, mixed with SZAisms, Favorite Song is Lit Right Now x Drop Top but with a gospel acoustic vibe. Ddi Ro Ri and In My Hands are probs the most “different” so far but it doesn’t sound all too drastic from what they’ve done before – they’re expanding MEOVV’s soundscape by a lot. I like this album a lot more than MEOW and I’m very curious to see where they go! I do hope they do more songs like Lit Right Now and In My Hands. The classical vibe of Ddi Ro Ri is very interesting and I like the drama.. I seriously think they should lean into it.

but that’s the problem it just don’t make no sense for the already established sound they have created & that has successfully worked well to depart into uncharted shark infested piranha swimming territory. It seems as so that the creative director doesn’t know where to go with the group. From track to track there is still that hip-hop beat element that they retain but then trying to layer a new sound over it. This makes it just sound messy, and a little bit all over the place & unsure. I don’t think the EP is terrible I just think its different & unexpected if they want to go into a new style they should but like commit to the bit. Don’t transition into a new hybrid sound utilizing your previous sound (that people actually enjoyed) and expect it to work. Thus being said, I don’t think they need to go into a new direction uk what I know they don’t. The group has debuted somewhat recently they have already have their own *unique* sound that differentiates them between other girl groups. They just needed to stick to that
