There’s something to be said about promoting your entire album with music videos, but there’s also a reason why some songs are meant to be b-sides and some are chosen as singles. In BABYMONSTER’s case, it’s a matter of personal taste. I didn’t care for title track CHOOM at all, but the summery sounds of I Like It appealed to me. Unfortunately, when it comes to Moon we’re back to dull territory.
There’s nothing horrible about this song. In fact, the production is often quite engaging. There’s a crispness to the instrumental that’s very satisfying and the dynamics are robust enough to offer a sense of fullness that works well. However, there’s just not much of a song attached to the track. This approach is par for the course in modern pop songwriting where vibes take precedence over drama and excitement, and it leads to a rather flat-sounding product.
Songwriting — in both K-pop and global pop — has fallen into a highly repetitive series of predictable flows. This phrasing tends to act in lockstep with truncated melodic lines that feel more conversational than melodic. I could list a hundred (thousand?) songs that fit this description, and they tend to feature structural monotony as an intentional choice. Rather than thrill, this dulls the listeners’ senses, making a song perfect for streaming in the background. It’s just the same thing over and over again. Such is the case with Moon, which boasts very few melodic ideas but no doubt works well as a mood setter. Needless to say, this approach is not for me at all.

The chorus and 2nd verse sounds very very similar to IVE’s Hypnosis, and I literally hum the melody to Hypnosis just when the chorus starts.

I really struggled to appreciate most of Babymonster recent releases. Preparing so many MV for song promotions would not work out if they did not have good materials. They are only wasting their hard-earned money from all their tour.
Unlike their legendary predecessors 2NE1 and Blackpink, Baemon members just don’t have enough charisma to pull this kind of concept and sound. There is nothing to enjoy whether sonically or performance wise. What a waste of talent. The third time is really not a charm for YG girl groups.

Also the voices aren’t weighty enough. Light lyrics sopranos, all softness with no edges. They don’t dig and curl into any line. They may as well be singing karaoke of their own song.

THIS! This is one of the reasons why most casual fans like their melody-driven songs compared to the badassery counterparts. I mean they are excellent vocalists but being forced to aclitimize with rap-focused songs and bad girl image just for the sake of group concept definitely did not help them much

the story of this group so far seems to be great song followed by mediocre song…I think the next release (LOCKED IN) will be much better…7/10

We really need a moratorium on that “synth stab punctuating every line of the chorus” thing. It just sucks. Not that this would’ve been any good without it, but still.
