THE WIND: A Career In Song Ratings

There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

  1. Ngl, I was sure they were gonna end up higher, like maybe Golcha/Lovelyz level, so I’m a bit surprised. I also thought their pre-2025 songs would eventually be rated higher as well so I’m surprised none went past 9.25 considering how much you rave about them 😭

But sigh, wish they had their original producers, it’s a sad slump but I hope it’s a little bump in the road. I don’t really care much about the kind of Christian horse girl/boy music style they and lowkey TWS do, so I’d prolly rank them a little lower, maybe Heavy Hitters.

  2. Damn, I think they could’ve easily been legends up there with TWS if they kept their same producers. Because I honestly think they executed this music type better than TWS did for the most part(Hope I didn’t trigger you, Nick) and their early discographies could easily rival that of Golden Child or ONF.

But I’d said they’re more towards 8.7-8.8 level, H!Teen is a 10 for me and Summer Vacation is a 9.5.

    • Idk what’s u guys beef with TWS exactly. It’s The Wind post and u mentioned TWS in downplaying tone. In tht TWS post also u put them down. R u tht pissed off tht TWS r just…better all around? Or pissed tht this blog admin preferred them than ur bias? Coz it’s too obvious. The Wind is good and u should’ve focused with that without downplaying others.

  3. Also, this is very random, but I’ve lately been in a Rania rabbithole and I was wondering if you plan to do their analysis as well? Their early to mid 2010s run is pretty good imo (Just Go is so underrated) although as Blackswan they haven’t hit that peak (also do you plan to count Blackswan’s singles in that analysis too considering they are a rebrand of Rania)

      • Yeah, the lineup changes versus the stark difference in quality between Rania and Blackswan also can be considered, although I’d also say that they lowkey had a slump towards the end of their singles run as Rania and Blackswan also re-debuted with the amazing Tonight as well before going on another slump

  4. Nick, out of pure curiosity – were you listening to Bjork back in 90s/2000s? The Homogenic/Vespertine era, do you even enjoy this kind of music? I’ve been a kpop fan for years and recently gave Homogenic a listen, and it honestly changed my whole perception of music. It’s so experimental and doesn’t rely on catchy hooks that I’m used to. Do you enjoy it, or is it not really your cup of tea?

  5. They should be up there with the best if not for their company’s issues. My favorite song from them will still be Only One tho.
