X:IN: A Career In Song Ratings

There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

  1. The ugly laugh I let out when I saw the notification for this post 😭😭

But yeah, they just have… terrible songs and 4 out of 5 having weak to terrible voices (esp E.sha, the one who sounds like a more nasally Jisoo) doesn’t make it any better.

Anyways, my average would be a 6.17. I don’t think Attention Seeker’s bad to warrant a low score like that, it mostly suffers from a godawful vocal performance.

Also, this is prolly the first time the y-axis has an interval of 2 than your usual 1… 🥴

    • Also, the group has officially surpassed Lapillus as the lowest-rated group on the blog! Lapillus can rest now, they barely had 3 songs to warrant that anyways 💔

(And they STILL are doing better than CORTIS btw)

  2. Oh btw Nick, you also forgot to add Never Sorry, a b-side from their The Real album in 2024. It has a MV so I think it’s eligible to be counted

    • Not sure if this song could push up the average rating or not, but it does show something: the vocal mixing of their company did not do their job well, and somehow it’s still jarring between the production and their vocal.

      • Don’t know about Nick but I’d personally put it in the mid or low 7s which would prolly raise my average to a 6.25 or something. But yeah, it’s your typical mid-tempo with a non-affected but still a little weak vocal performance. I do think the girls suffer from weak vocal skills and the way they almost always sing in an affected voice just highlights that weakness more.
