BLACKPINK members are very busy with their solo releases at the moment. Jennie just dropped a digital EP last week, Jisoo’s back later tonight and Lisa has returned with new single SaWaDiKa. This title is a stylized version of the Thai greeting “sawasdee ka”, but in Lisa’s hands it becomes another opportunity to regale us with boasts about how incredible (and rich!) she is.
I don’t know why I bristle at this subject matter as much as I do. After all, boisterous bragging has been a hallmark of hip-hop for decades. It just feels particularly hollow and materialistic at the moment and when an artist’s image/concept is built on boasts and brags it comes across as weirdly uncomfortable. I’m all about the “show, don’t tell” of songwriting. If you must predicate your entire track on how amazing you are, that track better be absolutely brilliant. I should be able to hear how awesome and groundbreaking your music is and come to my own conclusion, not just be pummeled into submission by incessant chants.
This is all to say, SaWaDiKa is as fun (or not fun) as any song of this nature has become. The production is solid, though hardly original or forward-thinking. The chorus is particularly lame, but it’s made for strutting so I guess you don’t need to think much about its vapid laziness. I’m sure it will have people on the internet “gagged” and “slayed” and whatever else they can type in all caps. However, I could throw a stone in any direction within the global music landscape and find another song just like this one. As Lisa herself says in the song, “there she go.” There she went.
Okay, then.
Have a good day, I guess.

Judging by the tone of the review, methinks Nick is now at the “numb” stage where he has now grown numb to the shit the music industry has to offer and cannot be arsed enough for a crash out review nor a harsh rating, thus the generous ratings and this review that screams “fuck it, I give up” (and also cause it’s Lisa, this is the only thing she talks about in her music anyways).

Is Nick at the acceptance or depression stage of Kpop being bad grief?

we have hit the stage between depression and acceptance in the five stages of grief, the kpop industry is a decomposing corpse that keeps getting dug out of its grave and reanimated even though we see the rotting flesh, ghastly eyes, tattered clothes and breaking seams, it must be taken out back and shot like old yeller before it causes anymore damage
it would take an exceptionally bad song for a major crashout to happen again

Bets that this song comes out within the next 2 months?

I’m thinking that at this point, maybe some of these releases should just not be considered kpop anymore, and just be skipped. For our sanity.
A Thai actress-singer-dancer who once belonged to a kpop group but now lives in France dating or dated richy rich boyfriend and records vanity singles in English … is not kpop. (Katseye = also not kpop)

Don’t we love it when our favourite kpop ladies love to talk about nothing but how they’re born stunner or they’re our bias, or how rich, beautiful, iconic by mistake they are? (≧ᗜ≦)ᡣ𐭩 They are so insecure, worse than 14 year old me was about her brown skin, that they just HAVE to tell us how they’re better than us, how they can buy a million lego sets or expensive Prada or Gucci if they want to (๑>◡<๑) But no, telling is not enough, they have to YELL at us at such an obnoxious, bratty tone that instead of a classy, confident woman, they sound like a bratty teenager thinking they’re Regina George (♡ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈) And it’s a beautiful reminder of how shitty this year has been musically, so fuck you kpop, fuck you music industry and fuck you Tarzzan for dropping the music video for the godawful Medusa back in mid-January and cursing all of 2026 as a result ♡⸜(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)⸝♡
Now if you’ll excuse me, before I get into a full Nicki Minaj-ass coke rant because I REALLY controlled myself here, I will now go back to sleep, I literally set my alarm to 5:20 am for this bullshit ON A FUCKING HOLIDAY (it’s 5:53 am right now and I slept for like barely 3.5 hours…), and if I can’t sleep, I’ll just down a Red Bull or black coffee and/or hope to pass out in the evening, so thanks for ruining my sleep schedule I guess, Lisa… ദ്ദി(ಥ﹏ಥ)
Instant 5.75- for me cause I’m too sleep deprived for the individual aspects or the proper ratings, I fear you’re being TOO generous here.

Resident Mom here: Gotta say, at my age, I don’t stay up late or wake up early for any pop culture anymore. Hours later at a decent daytime hour is fine enough.

I’ll be honest, the production on this track is amazing and it sounds less polarizing than her sister Rockstar. It’s a hit. I get the tired “i’m legendary i’m rich i look good” lyrics slander but this is one of the very few song that works just fine with that. I don’t think Lisa’s songs specifically are indicative of the K-Pop industry lack of originality as she seems to have moved far beyond the flawed kpop system and promotions. She’s simply an international pop/trap artist that sings in English all the time except for that one blackpink song per decade.
Definitely her most solid single to date (even tho i much prefer songs like New Woman and Born Again)

Mmmh, nah. More braggadocios slop I don’t need in my life.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go back to playing my divine playlist of my own legendary songs. I paused One(Lucid Dream)(my favorite Golden Child song) to read this review and I want to go back to playing it as if I never read this review.
Anyway 4.75(4,6,5,4) for me, just atrocious all around… Nick, you’re too generous.
