Song Review: Eunhyuk (Super Junior) – Blue Sky

If I’m being honest, this new song by Super Junior’s Eunhyuk nearly passed me by. After a certain number of years, I tend to lose track of solo work from members of more established groups. Often, these songs are too safe and dull to warrant much attention. But in a pleasant turn of events, Blue Sky bucks expectations by going down a dancier route.

When I think of Eunhyuk’s solo material, my mind instantly turns to badass hip-hop grooves he can dance to. After all, he was one of K-pop’s earliest performance experts. Blue Sky is much smoother and more melodic, opting for a euphoric dance sound that fits him surprisingly well. The chorus has a satisfying sense of lift. The hook is simple and streamlined, but very effective. I’m less enthused by the second verse switch up (you know I hate when dance music loses its momentum!), but Blue Sky rights itself quickly enough and ends on a high. The song doesn’t reinvent the wheel in any way, but it’s an enjoyable rush of energy that works much better than expected.
