K-Pop A-Z: Infinite – Tic Toc

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Tic Toc (from Over The Top / Paradise – 2011)

Tackling a more experimental arrangement, Tic Toc’s staccato verses are underlined by a fitful skitter of a beat that feels as if it’s in constant flux. This sense of unrest continues into the surging chorus, which brings in touches of orchestration. From here, the song makes a series of changes, both in melody and tempo. Its impact as a pure pop song is blunted by this feeling of disorientation, even as those very same elements make it one of Infinite’s most interesting pieces. Tic Toc will not be a song for everyone, but in many ways it previewed the group’s later, more boundary-pushing work with producers Rphabet.

  1. 100% disagree, sounds like late 90’s Björk without being her sound being watered down. One of the greatest Infinite songs and unequivocal 10 .

  2. i’ve been relistening to infinite’s discography and this is one of my favorite songs of theirs for sure. different strokes for different folks but im actually so surprised by this rating haha. 9 or 10 for me – bonus points bc lovelyz’ hug me is basically their own version of this song, and i love when woollim would make it obvious they are a sister and brother group
