K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – 1, 2, 3

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with f(x)’s A-Z reviews here!

1, 2, 3 (from SMTOWN Winter ‘The Warmest Gift’ – 2011)

Released as part of the special winter compilation albums SM Entertainment used to release, 1,2,3 is undeniably cheesy. It feels as if it was ripped from some imaginary Disney movie, down to its earnest English-language lyrics. Given its holiday theme, there’s a certain level of cheesiness allowed, but the song itself feels quite throwaway. f(x) give it plenty of pizzazz, but I’m not a fan of the chorus at all. It comes across as cloying and overly juvenile. On the plus side, the brisk, strings-assisted instrumental has great energy. Still, this is the rare f(x) track that I struggle to get through.
