Song Review: Kim Wooseok – Dawn

Kim Wooseok - DawnKim Wooseok hasn’t promoted with UP10TION for years, and his departure from the group was made official this February. Pour one out for this eternal classic! But unlike other members, he’s remained with TOP Media.

Looking back, I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a single title track from Wooseok. Sometimes that just happens. Obviously, our tastes don’t align! New single Dawn isn’t going to change that. It’s built upon the kind of lurching tempo so many boy groups seem to favor lately. And, its sense of dark mystery does nothing for me without the dynamic melody to back it up. It’s a serviceable representation of this sound, but feels heavier on style than substance.

The music video is cool, though!

  1. It gets an extra point for being in 6/8 time. Minus a half point for not using that wisely enough to jazz up an otherwise average solo release.

  2. Aww, I liked this one. Not as much as some of his previous ones but it’s a nice song. Hope he’ll be leaving TOP Media tho lol.

  3. This is just there. His albums usually have a few sides I really like. Not so much this time. But the b side Love and Hate is a beautiful slice of Baekhyun/Colde styled R&B.
