Bang Yongguk has proven himself a strong solo artist and excellent producer for other acts. His music is more varied than I would have expected, blending rap, pop and rock into a mix that’s all his own. New single Ride Or Die harnesses elements of the popular synthwave trend and twists them to Yongguk’s own making.
This song manages to satisfy and frustrate in equal measure. I appreciate its twists and turns, but this genre works best when it’s sleek and straightforward. Without sustained momentum, its electronic elements lose some of their bite. I enjoy Ride Or Die‘s chorus — especially Yongguk’s evocative delivery. And, there are some interesting textures used throughout the verses. But, the song is a bit scattershot, diving into contrasting segments that stall the energy and feel a little aimless. Overall, it’s a definite win. But, Ride Or Die could have been absolutely brilliant with a few tweaks.

I agree with your review. Song was good and unpredictable just some lil “break” parts didn’t need to be here. Still song worked for me overall and I can see he experiments and challenges himself a lot. So far I have liked a lot of his solo songs.

I think the energy stalls is from the fact he’s inserting little rap bits here and there instead of either making the rap bits longer and more fleshed out or just not adding them at all. Overall it’s still nice but it could have been more.

Lol I sometimes feel commentators on this blog here got lowkeye a prejudice against anything BAP-related. A subtle mixture of disdain and snobbism
