Last week, I called Avu-chan’s Year 0, Class 0 the best audition show I’d ever seen. That feeling has only intensified with time. And, it’s bolstered my interest in Ryugujo — the group formed through the series. They’re a self-proclaimed “alternative” act, which essentially means their music has a unique perspective and sound.
Both songs released so far were featured prominently in Year 0, Class 0. The guys performed Mr.FORTUNE several times throughout the competition and I never thought much of it in context of the series. But, this is the style of track that benefits from the tricks a studio recording can offer. It’s packed with fun musical flourishes, from the repeated chain-gang chant to the desperate exclamations that pop up behind the main melody.
Mr.FORTUNE manages to take many potentially cloying elements and transform them into a theatrical highlight that grows more addictive with each listen. I find myself smitten with sounds that usually drive me crazy, and that’s thanks to Avu-chan’s sharp writing and clever arrangement. The song is constantly in flux, never staying settled for more than a few seconds. It’s performed with absolute panache from the young Ryugujo. So much of Year 0, Class 0‘s appeal centered around the importance of musical expression, and the boys give it their all on this impish, otherworldly debut.

Oh yeah, I really like this! I can see why it’s not quite a 9, it doesn’t go as big at the end as it should. Yet I think it’ll climb up to a 9 for me in the end.

You’re probably not going to review NewJeans Danielle’s Little Mermaid tune (I get it; it’s a cover, and it’s not really Kpop), but I’ve been listening to it all morning. I know most are in the IVE & Le Sserafim camp, but I rate NewJeans and Fifty Fifty as the two best rookies of the last year, and this adds even more weight to my love for NewJeans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho0d4rf1LwY
Maybe I woke up on the right side of the bed this morning, because I’m also really enjoying the new tune by Kim Feel & Tablo. I can’t remember the last time I got excited by 3 new songs on the same day! 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31_P3NITHSI

I’m having a hard time processing what I just saw and heard, which means that I will be watching it a few dozen more times and probably adding it to my playlist afterwards. Thank you for this.

This is weird, and I like it!
Idk if there are any Jews here who will appreciate this observation, but I’ve just gotta say that it amuses me when pop stars’ costumes include the dangling torso strings that look like tzitzit. 😄

Now that sounds unique! It’s bonkers and charming at the same time, and yet it still has a strong sense of structure. I’m enjoying this.
