AB6IX offered an sleek, fashionable vision when they first debuted in 2019, but as the years have gone on I’ve struggled to maintain excitement in their music. Part of this is down to lack of consistency. They’ve struggled to maintain a definable sound and musical perspective, which makes a lot of their work feel generic.
New single Loser has a decent chorus and very little else. It’s a prime example of a song working against itself. Its centerpiece offers a nice sense of lift, but the verses are dull and lifeless. The song’s first twenty seconds are among the most tedious stretches K-pop has rendered in recent memory. Rather than use Loser‘s central riff as a jumping-off point, the vocals and rap sink energy with uninspired scraps of melody. And after a promising bridge, the track forces an ill-fitting dance break that shares no connective tissue with anything around it. What a mess!
Loser‘s sprightly hook attempts to right the ship each time it comes around, but even this segment wears thin with time. The result is a song that collapses in on itself, unsure what it wants to be or wear it wants to go.

This one is confusing. I don’t actually dislike any of it, but it does feel like a couple of (similar) songs cobbled together, as well as just a bit of a fluff song in general. I like it, I think…? Might be back in a day or two if I’m able to figure it out.

i think this one is simple and fun, i like it, probably one of their best if that says anything. they really haven’t found their sound at all, it’s a shame.

With the exception of the dance break, I feel like this could be a less-exciting ONEUS song. Something like the lush strings from Unforgettable could have improved this a lot.

As the song currently stands, the most notable thing are the purple shorts.
I think it is a solid (if generic) kpop song underneath, but needed more teeth to the production. Less vocal layering, more crash boom bams. Steal percussion ideas from the Michael Jackson Quincy Jones playbook. More dynamic range in the volume, lower lows, higher highs.
As is, it sounds like a mellow midtempo ballad sped up 1.2x on youtube. I am serious, try it at 0.75x, and it sounds a whole lot better.
Another easy fix:
The main melody chorus line Eb4 Bb4 F4 G4.
Sounds better as C4 Eb5 Bb4 C5

Well, it’s not bad! It’s probably one of their better title tracks in a while, though that’s not saying much LOL
The rest of the mini isn’t bad either, though I feel like they all kinda share the same problem of having a catchy/decent chorus, but no meat on the rest of their bones (sort of aimless verses). Blaze was my favorite from the highlight medley but the verses are pretty forgettable. Surprisingly I think I like Reality and the bossa-inspired(??) remix of Sucker the most. And Eden is…. well….. certainly a song with some mixing and autotuning decisions 🥴

I liked it. Needs a little more polish. Maybe stronger dancing and singing. Song is good tho.

The song lacks that extra spark that would make me go back to it, but I do like the aesthetic of the MV! I think the song itself would have been improved by more bold choices in the production, but then I don’t know if that would fit AB6IX’s style. I think I like them best for their more cheerful songs.

They peaked at Breathe… I haven’t liked any of their songs after, unfortunately 😔
