Song Review: B.I – Die For Love (ft. Jessi)

B.I - Die For LoveI wasn’t sure whether Die For Love should be categorized as a “song review” or a “buried treasure.” It has no music video, but it’s listed as one of the title tracks from B.I’s newest album. Whatever you want to call it, this is one of the strongest K-pop songs I’ve heard in awhile.

I can say the same for the album — especially the first six tracks. It gives me a similar feeling to G-Dragon’s 2013 opus Coup D’Etat. Like GD, B.I can do it all. The album is hip-hop at heart, but he’s willing to tackle multiple genres within that framework. He’s got the talent, songwriting skills and personality to pull it off.

For me, Die For Love is the first summer banger K-pop has delivered this year. It has a vaguely tropical house beat, though the production is much more varied than that descriptor may indicate. We even have an unexpected piano solo during the track’s outro. B.I’s vocals are modified with the perfect amount of filters and effects, resulting in a texture that feels humid and hazy. He used this same trick on last year’s standout Keep Me Up and it works so well with his voice.

Speaking of voices, the always-welcome Jessi pops up halfway through the track. Her verse offers bite, even if the song would have worked just as well as a B.I solo. She blends right into Die For Love‘s potent melodies, which are simple but sharply constructed. There’s no point during the song where I feel the structure is simply killing time. It’s taut and engaging all the way through.

I’ll be interested to see if Die For Love elevates to a “9” rating as the summer goes on. At this point, it’s right on the edge.

  1. Songs with this genre/ambience/’vibe’ always have me bopping my head, but never much more. I can hear that this song is well-crafted, but it doesn’t do much for me.

I do really love the piano outro, but then the song is suddenly over! Kind of anti-climactic there.

    Legendary Song: Roblox Death Sound

In the vast landscape of internet culture, there are certain sounds that have become iconic and instantly recognizable. Among these auditory phenomena lies the Roblox Death Sound, a short audio clip that has transcended its origins to become a beloved meme and a symbol of humorous moments in gaming. With its distinct “oof” sound, this audio gem has garnered widespread attention and has undoubtedly earned its place as a legendary piece of internet folklore.

The Roblox Death Sound, in all its simplicity, manages to capture the essence of surprise and comical defeat. As a player’s virtual avatar meets an untimely demise, the sound effect punctuates the moment with a brief, yet resonant, “oof.” This concise and straightforward audio clip has proven to be endlessly versatile, seamlessly fitting into a wide array of humorous situations and meme culture. Whether it accompanies an unexpected fall, a failed attempt, or a comical mishap, the Roblox Death Sound never fails to elicit a chuckle and cement its status as an internet sensation.

What makes the Roblox Death Sound truly remarkable is its ability to transcend the boundaries of its original context. Originally associated with the popular online gaming platform Roblox, this sound effect has become a staple beyond its intended usage. Its versatility and adaptability have allowed it to permeate various corners of the internet, finding its way into memes, remixes, and even pop culture references. Its sheer ubiquity speaks volumes about its enduring appeal and its ability to evoke a sense of shared laughter and camaraderie among internet users worldwide.

    • Ah, Roblox. Sonny boy likes to play the various historical battle re-enactments which don’t have music (or he turned them off), instead I get the sonorous tones of swords and such. Does the Roblox Death Sound include metal-on-metal sound?

This weekend was Thermopylae, which he switched to after the Frischermont set mysteriously had only drummers and he did not get the memo. Wait, what, why are there only drummers! Mom, look, everyone is a drummer! No kidding, kid, all I hear are drummers.

Also, just this very morning whatever was playing on the classical music station at 0-dark-30 reminded him of Minecraft music.

    • I know you meant it as a joke, but generating AI-written reviews in the writing style of someone you admire does no one any favors. Using that program in such a manner is helping it gather more data that could potentially put creatives out of work and as you can see, it’s already scrapped Nick’s work for content generation. And I can’t imagine Nick agreed to that. It’s one thing if Nick used it to generate more reviews; it’s his writing style. However, imitation is a form of flattery only when actual human effort and care was put into it. ChatGPT is not objectively bad or evil, but use it as a tool, not a way to create content you can’t bother to make yourself.

  3. I enjoyed it quite a bit but it doesn’t fascinate me. I also liked Jessi’s interventions, I feel that they elevated the song or at least connected perfectly with B.I’s delivery.
It’s an 8/10 for me but maybe it will continue to grow. And I’ll listen to the rest of the album because your comments made me curious.

  4. Absolutely in love with this banger. Idk…I haven’t even got actual words to describe how fascinating the listen appeared to be.

    Probably 9/10 for me.
