Queenz Eye debuted late last year with a song I never covered on the blog. Now, they’ve returned with their first comeback and a new sound. Un-Normal feels decidedly normal to me — especially given current K-pop girl group trends. It’s the latest in a long line of groovy, mid-tempo pop/r&b jams.
The other day, I was listening to a 90’s playlist and realized that almost all of my favorite 90’s songs could be classified as either r&b or hip-hop. What a golden era it was for those genres! And the elements that made those songs stand out are the same that make any song stand out — great production and memorable melodies. Too many of these new K-pop tracks replicate the 90’s vibe but lack the hooks and head-nodding beats to stand the test of time.
Un-Normal is *fine* in the way so many recent songs of this style are fine. Truthfully, it’s becoming more difficult to write anything new about them. I like Queenz Eye’s vocals. The groove is decent. The melodies barely stick. All in all, it’s decent summertime mood music.

To my surprise, I am biased to this style. It’s indeed in the mid-tempo trend, but it’s rarely a sleek RnB fare like this one.
It feels more of a proper KRnB track rather than K-Pop. And for KRnB, it ticks almost all the boxes. Maybe SAAY, Summer Cake, or Moon Sujin would fit this style.

what i like the most about the song, the korean lyrics hook.

I really like it, I know it’s not a home run but it’s very nice and I’ve already had it going round and round my head.
