Song Review: Generations – Beautiful Liar (Battle Of Tokyo)

Generations – Beautiful Liar (Battle Of Tokyo)Debuting in 2019, Exile Tribe’s Battle Of Tokyo is one of the coolest projects developed by any entertainment company. It brings together the agency’s Jr.Exile groups under fictional guises in a futuristic battle royale. It’s a multimedia project, including videos, books and — of course — music. This week, the third chapter in the series is unveiled. Battle Of Tokyo: Code Of Jr.Exile gives us five new tracks. One new music video will premiere each day this week and I’ll offer my thoughts on each as they become available.

First up is the eldest group in the bunch, Generations. I’m surprised they’re classified as a Jr.Exile group at all, since they’ve been around so much longer than all the others. But it’s kind of nice to have some seasoned pros in the mix.

Beautiful Liar is my favorite Generations track in quite awhile. My only annoyance is its second verse tempo change, a pet peeve I’ve been complaining about for five years now. This trend seems to be with us forever, so I’ve learned to accept it the best I can. Other than that, the song is a total banger. I love the trance elements — especially during the post-chorus breakdown. The melodies have a brilliant sense of speed, matching the intensity of the instrumental. This is a sound Exile groups deliver so well. I’m happy to see them continue to play to their strengths.
