Song Review: The Rampage – Justice Is Blind (Battle Of Tokyo)

The Rampage - Justice Is BlindDebuting in 2019, Exile Tribe’s Battle Of Tokyo is one of the coolest projects developed by any entertainment company. It brings together the agency’s Jr.Exile groups under fictional guises in a futuristic battle royale. It’s a multimedia project, including videos, books and — of course — music. This week, the third chapter in the series is unveiled. Battle Of Tokyo: Code Of Jr.Exile gives us five new tracks. One new music video will premiere each day this week and I’ll offer my thoughts on each as they become available.

Justice Is Blind arrives in the middle of a very busy year for The Rampage. By the time their early-August double a-side single comes around, the group will have promoted five songs in 2023. And, the year is only halfway over! They’re striking while the iron is hot, which is a good thing.

This is yet another blazing success from the group, melding their bombastic sound with compelling electronic textures to great effect. I love the development of the chorus. It feels robust and well-rounded, with spikes of addictive falsetto bookending most lines. The verses are less exciting, but delivered with such panache. The group’s vocalists have tons of presence, making even the weaker moments stand out. I’m playing it safe with the rating today, but I could see this elevating to a “9” with time.
