Song Review: ENHYPEN – One And Only

ENHYPEN - One and OnlyENHYPEN’s One And Only is a collaboration with Pokémon, though the song’s line distribution ensures we never get to hear Pikachu’s beautiful falsetto. Instead, the colorful pocket monsters appear in the music video. Without those added visuals, One And Only is a pleasant summer bop — airy and mid-tempo.

ENHYPEN have a few tracks like this on their albums, but it’s rare to see them promoted with a video. I know many fans prefer their darker, vampiric concept, but I’ve always felt the group functions best with bright, gentle fare like this. One And Only isn’t about to win any awards for ambition, but it’s relentlessly pleasant and surprisingly catchy. It doesn’t sound Pokémon-esque at all (whatever that might entail), making this collaboration feel kind of random. But for those wishing that fan-favorite b-side Polaroid Love would have gained more attention, this is a nice turn of events.

  1. I was actually wondering to myself, is Nick going to review this or not? I went back and forth for a while, then realized that because it has an actual music video, of course you would. What I didn’t expect was for you to like it this much! I was honestly expecting a 7.75 at most given your usual taste, so this was a welcome surprise.

For me, the mere fact that this song is mixed better, especially with regards to the vocals, compared to a lot of their original songs from their discography is a breath of fresh air. Sometimes it works like in Future-Perfect, but the random slather of auto tune in ‘Sacrifice’ especially in the high notes really pisses me off (as I like the song). Thank god this random pokemon collab gave them a song at an appropriate pitch AND it was mixed well. An easy win for me.

  2. This song is cute and fun and that’s the cutest video ever. This is the kind of promotion I’d do in a heartbeat if I was famous. I wonder if they got to choose the Pokemon in the video? Aside from Charizard and Pikachu. No way Pokemon makes a thing without those 2.

  3. Heheh I really like this!! I’ve been kinda looking forward to this since I love when kpop mixes with my nostalgic childhood loves (First Ateez with the songs for Digimon and Duel Masters and now Enhypen with Pokemon)

This was very cute and done well! They really sounded nice and breezy! And I agree – even as a standalone song this really sounds nice!! ❤ They mixed the Pokemon in just right enough to not be too overwhelming. Piplup was the one who shone here for me lol – so cute! 💕

  4. I was going to give this a pass, but when you compared it to Polaroid Love (easily my favorite Enhypen tune), then I knew I had to give it a listen! Okay, nice tune, this one’s going on my playlist.

  5. Absolutely lovely and pleasant! I was hoping there would be more of a collab in the actual song, Pokemon has countless iconic melodies they could have sampled.
