As we tiptoe toward September, Cignature are back to offer their take on a summer song. Smooth Sailing (안녕, 인사해) is bright and insistent, delivering a smooth shot of brassy pop uplift. This group has had many guises thus far, but this ebullient energy fits them well. It’s at once nostalgic and on trend, concerned with little more than raising listeners’ spirits.
Though Smooth Sailing holds its breezy arrangement all the way through, there’s quite a bit happening in the song. Not all of the hooks hit with equal power, but there are some nice moments during the chorus that give the track some heft. Without an instantly-memorable centerpiece, I’m curious how Smooth Sailing will fare with time. It doesn’t strike me as the kind of song most fans would become obsessed with, but it’s also impossible to dislike.
