Fantasy Boys come from the MBC survival series of the same name — another 2023 debut spawning from a TV show. I didn’t watch Fantasy Boys when it aired, but appreciated the fact that it cast B1A4’s Jinyoung as a mentor. If only he could have been in charge of the group’s debut single!
New Tomorrow is an amiable piece of fluffy, feel-good pop but it lacks a perspective of its own. To the uninitiated, Fantasy Boys’ first single should justify their place in a very crowded K-pop market. What does their music have to say that we can’t already hear everywhere else? New Tomorrow feels like the soundtrack for a Produce-style competition, so I guess in that way it’s on brand. But from the melodies to the production, there’s nothing special that catches my ear. The song simple washes over me in a pleasant, toe-tapping way.
On the plus side, New Tomorrow scores goodwill thanks to its upbeat energy and consistent structure. It may not be a sterling example of this pop genre, but it plays within a soundscape I tend to enjoy. If Fantasy Boys attach themselves to a producer who can give this sound more bite, they could become a promising vessel for buoyant boy group concepts.

The song would be better if KSoul wasn’t in the group. #KSOULOUT

I didn’t see this review coming given the fact that the group lacks any sort of proper promotion and the viewership ratings for the show is tragic…
Having said that, this song is a pleasant surprise, especially it’s different from their pre-release One Shot. It embodies the kind of freshness that a lot of K-pop lacks these days. I also think the chorus is quite pleasant. The line “We don’t say goodbye” did remind me of how Yu Junwon wasn’t able to debut because the lawsuit his parents have against the company, despite winning the survival show.
However, this group has absolutely no chance to achieve anywhere than the 3 major boy groups debuted this year. I’m more interested to see how NewID (rbw boy group with eliminated trainees from FB and BP) would do. It will be ironic if rbw finds Jinyoung to produce the group – and rbw also has WM under them.

I can’t believe this song only gets 7.75. I honestly thought this was at least a 9. I mean do we even get this level of vocalization in contemporary music, in an era where minimalism reigns supreme. I really applaud this song because it brings back what K-pop should be about. The performances are truly superb in this one!

I think what stands out for me is the different voices we have in the group. The members voices are pretty much distinguishable without the overuse of autotune. But it lacks the “debut” song atmosphere to help people remember the special side of this group.

Agreed. Their voices are distinct, without any attempt to homogenize them. It’s beautiful to hear.

I didn’t watch the show so I have no thoughts about the members. There were a few standout voices, especially one of the blonde kids (I saw their names at the end but I don’t remember). The song is bright and fun which I adore. I don’t like comparing groups but I definately got a Nine.i /ONF / N.ssign vibe.
This just made me more excited for ONF’s comeback.
