Song Review: LE SSERAFIM – Easy

LE SSERAFIM - EasyThough it received a muted response around these parts, LE SSERAFIM’s Overwatch single Perfect Night went on to become a big hit for the group. Someone at Source Music was clearly paying attention, as new title track Easy does its best to replicate that sound. This time, the girls have jettisoned the bombastic turns of Antifragile and Unforgiven to embrace groove and vibe.

To say this style is not for me would be an understatement. I can appreciate that we all have different tastes and there’s a huge swath of Gen Z listeners who thrive on Easy‘s subdued sound. To me, the song just sounds incredibly flat. Melodic range is narrowed to a murmur and the trap-heavy beat simply repeats itself rather than growing throughout the track. The vocal performance isn’t interesting enough to compensate. Heavy filters remove any warmth from the song, further obscuring individual character. It’s one thing to be airy. Easy is just empty.

Given LE SSERAFIM’s (and HYBE’s) standing in the K-pop industry, I’m baffled how a song like this came about. Not every a-list act needs to stuff fireworks and confetti into every title track, but Easy sounds like everyone involved simply gave up. It’s not what I would expect from a group currently topping the charts. But knowing how the industry (and rabid fandom) works, this will probably end up shooting straight to number one. In this case, that would be rewarding mediocrity.

  1. Damn, a straight 6? I was expecting you to rate it a straight 7 or a 6.75 😭

But I admit that the song’s boring and forgettable. Like, think NewJeans minus the groove that makes them nail their soft, easy-going songs. This song sounds like a generic BGM of some daily life vlog.

6.5 for me (7, 7, 6, 6) for now. But will most likely fall in ratings.

(But I admit the song was a nice cringe-cleanser from the abomination that was X:IN’s pre-release they released today 🗿)

  2. I thought Unforgiven was lame… They really surprised me lmao. Not a single track on the album being longer than 2:45 is a joke atp. The chorus was decent but not a single verse even stuck with me:/

Also loved how you could clearly hear each member with that very quiet beat in the back that I almost didn’t notice!!

I will probably see myself hearing/listening to this as time goes on but wow was it a huge disappointment.

  3. I didn’t even finish the video. Once the first chorus hit, I was like, “What are they DOING??!?!”

This sounds kind of like a Lil Nas X song, and he would perform it better.

Also, the video is just so dramatic, and combined with the song, it almost made me laugh.

  4. the last thing i’d want from le sserafim, the same group that has “antifragile” and “fearless” in their catalogue, is a painfully boring song. yet here it is.

  5. I read this and saw a D-, and was like wooah is it that lame? Listened, and I honestly see what you meant😅. I mean, I’m also a gen Z but a bit older one, and this is obviously not my thing…

  6. as a gen z, there’s not a single redeemable quality about this song for me. I HATE the production and songwriting (and this style of music). gun to my head, I could not tell you a single memorable thing about it. 0/10, I’m sorry.

this will probably be successful so their next comeback might still have this sound, I guess it’s time for me to bow out.

  7. I’m baffled. The EP opens with a rock-influenced song where these young women moan like crazy, Bella Baxter levels of horny, and then the title track is this nothing song. What tf was HYBE thinking.

  8. Well yyou know, we all have guilty pleasures😝😜

    Mine being easy(lesserafim) , macaroni cheese(young posse) , Cake & Sneakers(Itzy) and Birthday(Red velvet) 😍

  9. This is just my vibe, from them moment I played the song I liked it. I think the girls really do showcase the right vibe and they thrive in this style of music. I would really like them to continue going for this R&B-trap pop route than to go back to the ITZY sound they had with Unforgiven.

I feel like the parts that could do some work are the “Easy” hooks, including some harmonies could make those parts sound a lot smoother. I don’t particularly dislike the auto-tune/filters during some parts of the song, but if they weren’t there, I think it could elevate their performance.

This is an A for me tbh.

Also, if you are looking for a more melodic sound from the in the trap – pop section, maybe “Sour Grapes” could do that for you.

  10. Firstly, my favorite MV from lesserafim. I don’t know why exactly, but I’ve just really hated the direction and framing for their other MV’s- but this one has really good visuals and I love the way that its been filmed, mostly. I’ve watched the MV like ten times already.

Secondly, this song is so bland. I have watched the MV like ten times, and I do not remember what the song sounds like. I could not hum the chorus to you, I could not tell you anything about the sound other than there being a lot of sing-rapping. If I wanted to tell you if it was a good song or not I’d have to relisten to it… and then promptly forget what the song sounds like right afterwards. But, from what I recall, the song does seem like easy listening, so it’ll probably chart insanely well.

  11. Mmmhh yeah this is worse than “Perfect Night” to me. I have been listening to loads of R&B from Ariana Grande or Sabrina Carpenter, and I love lots of songs by New Jeans, so I don’t dislike this kind of subdued vibe when the groove is nice and the melody or the lyrics stick, but here there’s absolutely nothing. The chorus is just weak. It might work for the Korean public though, since Perfect Night did so well. God knows.

  12. this is the first hybe release that’s been a complete miss for me. they sounded like muppets in parts. also, what’s with all the vampires this year? in 2024 alone we’ve gotten mr vampire and now sakura the vampire… let’s try and keep the fangs during halloween …

  13. So like, I listened to this song the first time, but then I like started to listen to it over and over again, it doesnt really sound good anymore, so i’d say its a solid 7-8.5..the lyrics, are bland, I wonder who wrote this song tbh and who the producer is.

  14. So far I like the group more than their songs (and there’s a lot to like). I’d give “Easy” a 6.5/10…it’s okay. There are better songs on the mini though.

  15. big yawn. my problem with hybe is that they have groups with charismatic performers with xyz talent + beauty + great concepts and yet they drop the ball when it comes to their title tracks that seek to emulate a different artist who i would’ve loved to listen to perform it instead (antifragile with rosalia / fka twigs). would’ve loved this song if it done by tinashe, in this case.

  16. Them dancing to this wet noodle looks so crazy 😅 It turned up the ridiculousness in Unforgiven to a hundred and slapped it on a sza reject. I really thought LSF wouldn’t have any troubles in adding their own flavors to a song, but damn, this song is so bland, its raw even.

  17. I am in complete agreement with this rating. Le Sserafim can, and has, done better than this. I said it in another comment, this is the song equivalent of wet cardboard: bland, disappointing, and somehow surprisingly soggy.

  18. beat shoulda gone to someone else, very flat not bad just it’s there? i like it but thats cuz its like everything else but a little worse… also can we talk how over autotuned or retouched they sound? like they are singing lower than usually and then the beat sometimes completely obscures their voice!?

6/10 still a good genre to cash out in tho as its still trending

  19. Disappointed. Sorry LE SSERAFIM but I’m not in the track of their whole EP released this time.

Not only the title, but the whole EP sounds dull. The intro track Good Bones did rise my expectation of the rest of the songs, turns out makes me fall till the extreme dissatisfaction. I’m already lazy on complaining the song length (while the longest track in this EP is 2:47) but I wish they could showcase their versatile in music by adding more genre into an EP. All of the songs sounds muted and it doesn’t even evoke any emotion from me except disappointment this time.

    From Track 1 to Track 5, 7.5 / 4.0 / 5.0 / 5.5 / 5.0
    EP: 5.0 / 10.0

PS: It is also weird for me as I expected a versatility in a Korean Album, but I will never complain about the same genre fit in whole album from an American album. Just wondering if anyone same as me?

  20. I love LE SSERAFIM a lot and I’m a massive fan of them, but this song is just not it. I like the lyrics and meaning, but this doesn’t feel like a LE SSERAFIM song at all, and it doesn’t feel like a title track. I much prefer the other tracks to this.

  21. gotta be tough when negativity is a lifestyle. I guess those that regularly visit a kpop song review blog are not the target market for kpop in general.

the fimmies are hot and unfortunately, gen z has created the monster and they are playing Dr. Frankenstein. This is a song to rule tiktok and it will. Gen z in a nutshell: 30 second bites and hot girls shaking their asses. LE SSERAFIM crushed it if that’s the barometer, right?

  22. I’m an elder millennial and I actully liked this. Granted I think the video helped me enjoy the song more, the styling and choreo really worked for me.

I couldn’t help but think how this somg could have been a Tinashe b-side or intro. I also love Tinashe so I think thats why the song works for me.

  23. I’m an older Gen z but I have a sister who’s a millennial which explains why my taste doesn’t line up completely with most gen z listeners. I agree with your thoughts sonically however, I have a lyrical gripe with the track as well. “Make it look easy” has been so overdone in Western music, it’s a phrase I used to say a lot but it’s in the past for me. So it feels really corny in this song and detracts the vibe they’re going for

    • In fact there’s a much better kpop song with that exact phrase I already know of, Stray Kids “Easy,” so it’s difficult not to compare…

  24. I’d have to agree. I’m an 08 baby, born in 2008, in senior highschool. A lot of my friends seem to really enjoy this song, and I just can’t fathom how. This song is the same thing the whole way through, and incredibly dry. No fun twists and turns, no interesting melody or effects. Autotune can be really effective when used creatively, for example in Stray Kids’ music, where it has a purpose. The lyrics are meaningful and share a good message, but the rest of the song is incredibly basic. I love le sserafim’s vocals, they all have amazing singing talent. This song is a waste of that talent. Does not use a big range of notes and is mainly in the low range. That’s fine, but there’s no contrast.
    Anyways, those are my thoughts.
    I would say it’s not even close to a 6/10 for me. I’d say about a 2/10.
I’m sorry, but I legit can’t understand the appeal for this song. I’m shocked that this was even released.

  25. i’ve had enough of this….first off, for you, Nick, to give “Easy” a score of 6 is absolutely ridiculous!….”Easy” is a frickin bop, and it deserves better reviews than you and your followers are giving it….Le Sserafim, as a group, certainly deserves more respect….

while i will admit that sometimes when someone comments and says people are ‘hating,’ that may not always be the case, but upon reading these comments over and over, i do believe you all are doing exactly that….hating….

it’s one thing to not like something, but to go after a great kpop group like Le Sserafim the way you all are, it’s beyond ridiculous….you all may not like “Easy,” but fortunately for Le Sserafim, there are a whole lot of others that do….and i for one, am one of the many that do!

  26. It’s fine and listenable, but it’s not art. Nowadays Hybe groups don’t make art (well I liked TWS actually) but they just put out songs that fulfill their criteria. The song must be as short as possible, it must appeal to the Western ear, and it must be on-trend. There is no soul behind most Hybe music. Of course other companies do this stuff too, but Hybe does it the most obviously to me. Also, with Le Sserafim I think they decided to stop giving them fast/challenging songs because of the backlash over the group’s vocals. After Unforgiven showcased that only 2 members can sing decently, they got Perfect Night and now Easy which barely has any pretty singing parts. I think Easy has one little part from Yunjin or Chaewon, but the rest is easy! 😉
