K-Pop Risers & Fallers: February 2024

Risers & FallersRather than contain my “Risers and Fallers” feature to a single post in June, I’m going to share a bite-sized version at the end of each month. This will let me account for more songs and make a nice lead-in to the monthly round-up post.

I anticipate most of these ratings adjustments will be negligible: a 0.5 shift here, a 0.25 shift there. But, it’s a fun way to keep track of how my feelings on songs have changed over time – as well as which tracks currently have momentum on my playlist.

And remember, just because a song is marked as a “faller” doesn’t mean I hate it! Falling from a “9” to an “8.75” is no shame. 9+ rated songs occupy a totally different playlist in my music library, so I’m pretty particular about what qualifies. It’s a high bar.

This month’s feature covers the period from January 23rd to February 19th.

  1. Damn, was rooting for Demigod to rise, cause I’m addicted to the song, but looks like taste varies 😔 Still a 9 (8, 10, 9, 9) for me.

Anyways, for me, I Got You and One Spark have both personally risen from a 9 to 9.25. Diamond (Tri.be) too from a 8 to 8.5 (I liked the sentimental vibes from it). Nightwalker from 8.5 to 8.75 (yes, I’m pretty lenient with my ratings). Personally, I expected Super Lady to rise too, but it’s still a 7.75 for me.

Fallers, well… Idk, Feb didn’t really have much songs. But for me, only Easy fell from a 6.5 to a straight 6.

But ngl, didn’t expect Killin It’ to rise a lot. It still is a 7.5 for me.

    • I take it back. Killin’ It is personally a straight 7 (in my defence, I only listened to it once and forgot all about it 🗿)

And Easy is almost touching the 5.75 category, but I won’t say it’s unlistenable to the point it warrants that kinda score.

  2. I liked these:
    Tennie – Nightwalker
    Piwon – Killing It
X:In – Respect, Respect (this is dumb as hell, but I enjoy the lack of perfection. Also, the “Sweet Soul Music” style shoutouts are hilarious.)
