At their best, E’Last have offered an ultra-dramatic take on K-pop, fueled by orchestral strings and inventive song structures that feel almost like musical theater. Over the years, they’ve drifted from that early sound, most recently in the form of Kiss Me Baby‘s funk energy. New single Gasoline returns to darker textures but fails to recapture the magic of their best work.
Gasoline is delivered with plenty of panache, but the song spends most of its time offering a style of plodding shout-singing that’s become less effective the more boy groups embrace it. Despite its bombast, the melody remains surprisingly flat, cycling through an unadventurous structure that would be quite boring without the aggressive distortion that fuels it. I can see what E’Last were going for here, but the song just isn’t that pleasant or interesting to listen to.

It’s barely a 5.5, on a scale from 0 to 10. It’s so empty and basic. The song doesn’t harmoize with itself well. It feels like a higher energy song thats been slowed down and modified from the original.

Let me clarify, a 0 is not listenable, a 5 is exactly “ok” and a 10 is perfect. If it auto played I may or may not skip it. I have only listended twice, so it could change.

It sounds like your 5.5 and my 7.5 are pretty similar. On my scale, a 7.5 is definitely “ok” — not something I’d rush to listen to but not something that’s actively bad/annoying either.

We should be dipping into the 5s for this.

Yeah… they lost their mainstay producer(s) after Creature and it shows. Thrill and Kiss Me Baby were pleasant enough despite lukewarm feelings on the rebrand and departure from their old sound. But this is easily the group’s worst release.
I’m mourning the loss of my dramatic orchestral theatre kids with E’last and Kingdom rn.

Definitely not their best. I loved Dark Dream, Tears of Chaos, Thrill, and enjoyed Kiss Me Baby. The album has a couple of Bsides that are good.

This was a crazy disappointment. Didn’t even sit through the entire MV and that’s def saying something. It feels empty and I don’t see where they were going with it. The intro was weird, I could barely tell where the actual song started. Gets a 2 at best.

I’m just happy they finally have a full album, but I wish the title track could go back to their symphonic sound.

No comment on the title track, but I quite like ‘Addiction’ and ‘Fade Out’ from the album.

I feel bad for E’Last rn😭😭
If you check their view count and their streams, the songs with the highest are songs like Creature and Gasoline.I think their new producer has been going for a much more generic and broad appeal for the boys, since their more orchestral songs get less popularity compared to their more generic(Creature,Gasoline,Thrill,Kiss Me Baby).I have a feeling that E’Last’s music will continue like this as long as they stay with their new Producer.
