I was concerned when GHOST9’s new digital single didn’t include any music video teasers, making it feel more like one of those throwaway “for the fans” releases than a full comeback. Now, Awesome Day (째깍째깍) arrives with a low budget “lyric video” — never the most encouraging sign for a group’s future.

The song itself also feels quite underwhelming, like a late-album b-side plucked out of obscurity. Most of GHOST9’s music has a harder edge than this frothy pop sound, though they’ve explored the style on 2021’s standout summer banger Up All Night. I had hoped Awesome Day would recapture that magic (and energy!), but the track is content to simply groove along without landing any melodic or instrumental punches.
