Acts within the extended HYBE universe don’t often lack promotion, but fromis_9 are an exception. Perhaps it’s their late move to Pledis Entertainment or that agency’s history of struggles with girl groups, but fromis_9 have fallen into the dreaded “one comeback a year” pattern. Whenever an artist’s discography starts to dwindle, it becomes vital that each and every song fires on all cylinders.
fromis_9 have developed a remarkable consistency when it comes to quality, and I think many listeners will find Supersonic a continuation of that run. However, I’m going to be the grumpy naysayer on this one. Supersonic is a well-crafted, well-performed song that does nothing for me. It’s a matter of preference, and largely comes down to the way its chorus is constructed.
Supersonic‘s verses are its most interesting element, especially when the instrumental gets going during verse two. But rather than take off during its centerpiece, the song stalls as we hit the chorus. Muted synths recall my least favorite aspects of the once-popular future bass genre as the melodies stretch in a way that slows momentum even as fromis_9 bring the drama with powerful vocals. The full package just doesn’t fit together, leaving a disappointed pit in my stomach.

Damn! Didn’t expect a 7.5 but also did at the same time🤣
I honestly live fromis and this is their most high power song yet and it’s very catchy to me😍
9.5/10❤️🔥💥🍒

Damn, I found this quite nice. I liked the way they sang “night~” and “delight~”, it tickles my brain in the right way. But I do wish it had more to it. It reminds me of their older songs (a compliment!). Also, the “super super, supersonic” hook sounds like it came from somewhere in late 2000s or early 2010s.
8.25 (9, 8, 8, 8) for me.

What do you think of the two album tracks? They personally didn’t enthuse me much 🙁

I actually prefer both of them to the title, but they’re still pretty generic. Beat The Heat should have been the title track imo

probably their weakest title track in a long time imo. it’s still good but it lacks the replay value their previous singles had

I liked it actually. I think the vocals are really good but I do agree that the chorus feels a little lackluster for the rest of the song. But I won’t skip the song for sure.

I appreciate the honesty of this bias in the review LMAO!!!
I really do like this title track – an ACTUAL bridge, for once!!! And it feels complete as a song – but I guess I can see why it might not click for you.

This was okay, it’s cute, it’s fun and it fits the summer theme and sound. I couldn’t help but think how much this reminded me of Summer Cake’s “Not in public.” I like the sound but it’s not something I’d go out my way to listen to. I’ll definitely watch a few stage performances of this, honestly only to see the full choreography and styling.

I mean… it works. Would I replay it? Mmhhh maybe not. It sounds like a song written at the table programming every turn with the most predictable melody lines from the 1960s to now. It’s just lackluster, like you say. If you want to do predictable you need something as good as BTS “Dynamite”. That is super-predictable but the hook is so strong that after 3 years it’s still on my playlist (also it’s close to selling 7-8 million copies worldwide by now I think).
It’s a 7/10 for me.

It isn’t bad, it’s just not interesting. a song you forget as soon as you heard it.
I feel like they just don’t know what to do with this group. it lacks personality, there is no Fromis 9 sound currently.
it’s as shame because there is some good talent among the girls

for me, it’s giving unsuccessful attempt to try and mix “Superlove” by Tinashe, and “Body Party” by Ciara. i agree, i think that chorus came off clunky and unnecessarily tried to show off vocals instead of the sleek, killer catchy hook the verses promised. i was very excited with what i heard in the previews, so it was kind of disappointing to hear the song not hit as hard as DM or Lovebomb. really hoping that whatever releases they do in the future, they zero in on a hit!

i thought Fromis_9 disbanded?….i have never really been a big fan of them, but it is not due to any fault of theirs….i believe the ladies are talented and i have liked a few of their songs….for me, it is the crappy agency that managed them (Stone Music Entertainment)….and while i am in no way feeling more confident about their chances to now be better with Pledis Entertainment (horrible agency, to say the least!), but what’s even more irritating is that they are now a part of Hybe, a much, much, much better agency with cash-flow, resources, and producers to get these ladies back on the k-pop map, but like Nick said, we are getting 1 comeback per year, which to me, unless you are EXO, A-Pink, or a group with that kind of clout and stature, it is just a recipe for disaster for a group….
i wish Fromis_9 the best, and i wish Hybe would do us all a solid and buy out Everglow’s contract from their worthless agency and pour into those ladies so they can be the super-group many of us believe they have the potential to be, ever since their debut….

This song is so… boring. It’s great if you just want vibey background music for a TikTok or backyard pool party I guess? But it doesn’t excite me at all, there’s very little energy throughout the song save for the first parts of the chorus, and that’s not enough of an earworm to carry the rest of the song, unlike some of their other recent-ish title tracks. The muted “Super, super, supersonic supersonic” chants are so disappointing too
Overall just serviceable but I wanted something with more meat on it after a year of waiting. 7/10
The other songs on the album are better at least, I like Take A Chance. Similarly serviceable but they’re significantly more enjoyable.
Anyways I’ll be returning to last summer’s Attitude…

Middling song.
Witnessing the newjeansification of fromis I guess? With le sserafim visuals?
HYBE truly excels at rubbing the personality out of everything they touch.

Nick I think you are overtly harsh with the rating, but at least you make your points properly. But at least it’s better than this whiny comment sections. This is purely out of pettiness, but I just want to say all of the commenters who shit on this song are a bunch of pretentious fans and snobs. Y’all should take your opinion and shove it up your *** because this song is now the best performing song by fromis_9, and you all should go and re-evaluate your music comprehension.
