Beautiful (from Fallin’ Light – 2019)
The piano arpeggio that opens this track is gorgeous and promises a sense of dynamism that never quite materializes. The instrumental shifts as we hit the first verse and the track transforms into… for lack of a better word… a bit of a hoedown? Unfortunately, the chorus melody doesn’t work well with this style and the vocals are oddly reserved against the more forceful instrumental (the mixing is weird). This isn’t bad, but it’s missing many of the hallmarks GFriend do so well. They also repeat the word “beautiful” way too much for my liking!

Grade: C
GFRIEND Japanese B-sides mixing is all weird, fair warning. This is easily the worst one, mixing-wise. I don’t remember the last time I actually listened to it past the first few measures, tbh. Another one with the mixing issues is “Start of Love”.
