I never got a chance to write about BEWAVE’s debut Sing! earlier this year. That song didn’t do much for me, but I heard potential from this young group. New single Hard To Get To You (너에게로 가는 길이 너무 어려워) moves toward fulfilling that potential, unveiling a surging sound that’s refreshingly anthemic in its approach.
I probably don’t have to repeat how disinterested I am with the overriding girl group trends this year. Suffice it to say, if I never have to write the word “subdued” again on this blog, I’d be a very happy fan. Hard To Get To You tiptoes away from that under-the-radar approach to offer a song with a little more meat on its bones. I’m not sure the track does enough to distinguish itself, but within the current market its sheer existence stands out.
Hard To Get To You has a pop rock drive, propelled by big percussion and touches of electric guitar and synth. It’s a generic, OST-friendly sound, but there’s a reason this style of arrangement has stood the test of time. Melodically, the song also moves through the expected beats, slowing during its pre-chorus only to build toward a punchy hook that stretches to the sky. Nearly everything about Hard To Get To You needs to be pushed further, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

This is beautiful, and again I love that kind of youthful friendship theme that the MV is going off of.

A very nice surprise.
It sounds like the old Fifty Fifty (last year’s line up) covering a long lost peak Big Bang song reconfigured with the contemporary pseudo-80’s flair instead of the old emo style. I am serious here, I can hear which lines would be Taeyang, which one Daesung, GD would get the rap in his gritty bespoke style, then TOP down an octave for the follow on rap lines.
The sound of that drum is all A-ha Take on Me. True 80’s flashback. Speaking as someone who wore out her 45rpm single back when. They probably used the same vintage drum machine or a good emulator of it.
I also appreciate that they are singing their hearts out on the song, full sung through. And a song that follows regular song construction verse – chorus – verse – chorus – break – chorus. Or whatever they actually do, it is a song entity that resembles Song. A song to sing that is sung.

Final chorus with high note ad-libs is what current girl group missing component. I enjoy this song from the beginning to the end! What a standard pop song from verse > chorus > bridge > explosive chorus. 9.0/10 for me, might growing as well.
