Falling Asleep Again (from Parallel/Rainbow – 2017)

We’re back to ballad territory with this one. I tend not to listen to ballads often on their own, but I appreciate them within the context of an album. Falling Asleep Again is a fine end cap on Parallel/Rainbow and does exactly what its title promises. You may find yourself dozing off to these melodies, but the group’s pleasant vocals help inject some personality. It’s a well-performed – if slight – addition to the softer side of their discography. I often forget that it exists, to be honest!

    • LOL I forgot about that China song. That era of Disney channel music was really fun and cheesy. A lot of the songs actually hold up on their own, too.

Blood On The Dance Floor the album has always been a bit derided by critics but I enjoy it for what it is. Have you seen the full Ghosts mv/movie? It’s super indulgent and goes on too long, but it’s fun. It’s got a few of the songs in it and the choreo is of course fantastic. Is It Scary is another great track for Halloween, but the song I find most compelling is Morphine — especially its jagged industrial beat. Its subject matter is incredibly eerie given the cause of MJ’s death years later, but as a piece of music it’s really fascinating and aggressive.

  1. Oh come on, Nick! This is one of their best ballads. Honestly, I want it played at my wedding one day, even if it’s just as an instrumental cover. It captures the feeling of having someone you love fall asleep on your shoulder at the end of a good day together.

I think it’s one of the most obviously intimate songs in their discography. I love this song.

Looking forward to the rest of the Fs! Fingertip and Flower are coming up, and both are heavy hitters. Idk what was in the writers’ rooms when they were writing, but if the song starts with F, it’s a great one.
