Our Secret (from Time For Us – 2019)

Previous Thoughts: “I love its breathless verses, which have a sense of propulsion that really gets the energy going. The song’s tropical synth loop is derivative as hell, but still manages to be catchy — especially when the girls’ vocals trace its edges during the understated hook.” (full review)

Updated thoughts: It’s funny how much I appreciate tropical house sounds now that the trend has long since passed. I certainly got sick of them back in the day, but the music’s propulsive nature and upbeat energy sounds great in retrospect. Our Secret doesn’t have much of a fleshed-out hook, but its individual elements are all catchy enough to compensate. The girls give a varied performance that accentuates all the song’s charms. This is a satisfying mid-tier GFriend track.
