Baby DONT Cry released a couple of solid singles early on in this year, but have been relatively silent throughout the summer and fall. Though they haven’t done much to craft a signature sound of their own, their music has been decent so far. Unfortunately, new single Replay hinges on too many of K-pop’s overused trends these past few years, making it feel like a copy of a copy of a copy.
I doubt there are many listeners in search of yet another subdued, UK garage track from their idols. This territory has been retread in the exact same way more times than I can count, removing any novelty from the sub-genre. Replay does nothing to distinguish itself from the pack, offering a series of barely-there whisps of melody. The girls sing in an overly airy style, floating over the track with little presence. It’s all very “in one ear, out the other,” which is not what a newer group should be striving for.
Melodically, Replay has one main idea and trudges through it without much variation. The song is light on its feet and bouncy, befitting Baby DONT Cry’s youth. However, I wish we could hear more personality in both the production and performance. There’s nothing unique to the group here, meaning we wind up with a song that could have gone to anyone and been delivered the same way.

Oh look, another UK Garage song stripped off of all its colour by a gg that sounds like background music at a clothing store! The clothing stores must have tons of playlists sprawling with this slop by now.
Rating’s the same

Pop songs are supposed to be fun not a chore.

Watching the UNCHILD TiNG TiNG teaser, I thought, what good timing that they’re releasing a big sci-fi song since we are post-Neon. Baby Dont Cry, on the other hand, are caught looking outdated here. I loved Shapeshifter (just learned it on guitar) and Bittersweet, so this is a let down. Still, glad to have them releasing anything!
