Windy Windy (from Sunny Summer – 2018)

It’s amazing how, through sound alone, music can conjure a specific setting in your imagination. Ambient noise is often used to accentuate this quality, and Windy Windy opens with the sounds of the beach, perfectly complimenting the group’s vocals and immediately establishing setting. The song blooms from here, borrowing from GFriend’s debut-era blend of sharp, swinging percussion and effusive synths. This song grows and grows, culminating in a brilliant instrumental break after the chorus and a killer series of ascending power notes. It’s a sweet, summery sound that holds up extremely well. A stronger set of hooks would put it over the edge, but overall this is a total winner.

  1. Easily the best song on the album. I love this song. That two-part bridge is great.

If it wouldn’t have killed Yuju, I would have really enjoyed this as the single; I think it would have done well in a way that Sunny Summer did not.

I think they used this as a concert closer a few times? Or maybe a “right before intermission” thing. Either way, it works great live.
