Rather than contain my “Risers and Fallers” feature to a single post in June, I’m going to share a bite-sized version at the end of each month. This will let me account for more songs and make a nice lead-in to the monthly round-up post.
I anticipate most of these ratings adjustments will be negligible: a 0.5 shift here, a 0.25 shift there. But, it’s a fun way to keep track of how my feelings on songs have changed over time – as well as which tracks currently have momentum on my playlist.
And remember, just because a song is marked as a “faller” doesn’t mean I hate it! Falling from a “9” to an “8.75” is no shame. 9+ rated songs occupy a totally different playlist in my music library, so I’m pretty particular about what qualifies. It’s a high bar.
This month’s feature covers the period from January 21st to February 17th.
RISERS
None
FALLERS
Chungha – Stress
Rating: 8.25 → 8 *Biggest Faller*
CIX – Thunder
Rating: 9 → 8.75
IVE – Attitude
Rating: 8.5 → 8.25
Jennie (BLACKPINK) – ZEN
Rating: 8.5 → 8.25
Lisa (BLACKPINK) – Born Again (with Doja Cat & Raye)
Rating: 8.75 → 8.5
Hey Nick! Just curious: what sets apart a song to be the “biggest faller”, if not the amount of points? Since, for example, all the entries here have 0.25 decrements, what made Chungha the biggest faller in this case? Would the ratings key on the sidebar be the basis for that?

If all of the decreases/increases are of the same amount, I just have to use my gut to decide the song that had the biggest personal change from release until now. It’s not particularly scientific haha

Gimme Gimme is a riser

Aww, sucks to see Zen and Thunder fall for you. For me, the former grew for me. And also, you mentioned that you liked ALL(H)OURS’ “Gimme Gimme” more with each listen in a tweet, so I assumed it’d be a riser as well. So is it still stuck at an 8.5 or did it rise, but you forgot to mention it?
But well, my risers are:
*Biggest riser* Gimme Gimme (ALL(H)OURS): 8.5 (7, 10, 8, 9) to 8.75 (8, 10, 8, 9)
Zen (Jennie): 8.5 (8, 9, 8, 9) to 8.75 (8, 9, 9, 9)
Earthquake (Jisoo): 8.5 (8, 9, 8, 9) to 8.75 (8, 9, 9, 9)
Fallers:
None.
And damn, this is the first time we don’t have a single riser in a month (at least since July 2022 given we never got the R&Fs for the second half of the year from 2016-2021)

This is going to sound weird, but Gimme Gimme kind of had an arc for me where it started at 8.5, rose to 8.75 for a day or two and settled back to 8.5 in the end. I still like it, though!
