THIS WEEK IN K-POP: Ranking the New Releases from September 28 – October 4

At the end of each month, I compile my top three K-pop title tracks and list a ton of honorable mentions. In 2025, I thought I’d try something new and add a weekly feature to supplement my monthly round-up. Each Sunday, I’ll offer a compendium of the week’s new releases featured on the blog. And even more than that, I’ll attempt to rank them from my least-to-most-liked. I invite you to share your own rankings as well. The comments section of these posts is also a great spot to discuss anything that has happened in K-pop during the week.

Make sure to click on the title of any release to read the full review and see its initial rating. Consider this your one stop Bias List shop each and every Sunday!

  1. You’ve probably doubled or tripled my k-pop consumption since you started with these weekly rankings and included recommended b-sides! Keep up the good work!

This week I’d recommend the following new songs:

    tripleS – “Oshare”

can’t be blue – “take it anymore”

    WONHO – “Good Liar”

    • I have lost track of what was a single and what was a b-side. I mean, MADE was like all singles. (They took a month break in the middle apologizing deeply because the pace of all singles was crazy.)

That said, I believe these were follow-up promotions.

Love Dust – everyone steals from this song’s vibe. It is a softy but still has drive, so the production balanced both. I love this performance as it proves that you don’t have to do an intense dance all the time – you can use back up dancers so that the singers can actually, yanno, sing. (though noting the singing here has a heavy post-process. The mics are live, but the backing track is heavy.) https://youtu.be/oIg6HtzBcFo?list=RDoIg6HtzBcFo There was an old meme poking fun at how some stans insist their groups are all marching band precision perfection in the dance, everyone hitting every cue. On the left was some group going all full force “your group be like”; on the right Big Band with Tae S D GD full out dance and TOP just standing there “my group be like”.

Koewokikasate – Daesung’s voice is just so atmospheric like a soft cloud. Taeyang can lift an entire chorus almost by himself. Heck, even that fifth guy sounds good. https://youtu.be/oQjcJBGIFsA?list=RDoQjcJBGIFsA Also, and this is key, kpop today, they all look the same, they all have the same damn haircut. Here, you can tell they asked the stylist – so what else you got, I don’t like this one. Also, the rap actually rhymes, comically, but it does rhyme.

Blue – if you are going to go all emo softy, at least do it with good music sung in harmony. https://youtu.be/ameKWOKWpF4?list=RDameKWOKWpF4 Note how the dance is also very subdued.

    • I had to look back to see if I’d posted a b-sides list for them and I’m surprised I haven’t?

      Some favorites:
      Wings
      Oh, Ah, Oh
      Stupid Liar
      Love Dust
      Ain’t No Fun
      Hands Up
      Still Alive
Bingle Bingle (basically all of the “Still Alive” album)

For a group with as much influence as them, they really don’t have many b-sides. Blame it on YG’s release strategy, I guess…

  2. Some weeks are awesome, some are ok, some are bad, and then there’s this week…maybe (big maybe), Pow’s WallFlowers, and that may be my bias working hard🫤

  3. Thank you for your writing and ranking Nick, it’s reallyv enjoyable to keep up with new pop from all over through you!

I was wondering if you saw that two solo songs from Ateez’s In Your Fantasy repackage got music videos recently (Mingi’s Roar and Yeosang’s Legacy)? I enjoyed your review of Sagittarius when that one came out. If you want to review these or the next ones (nothing confirmed but we’re likely getting mvs for all IMO), I’d be interested in reading your thoughts!

  4. Spinnin On It has improved over time for me as I knew it would. The accapella highlight medley they released for their new album gives me high hopes as well. And looks like they are finally releasing O.O as 2 songs. The live band performance of O.O pt2 from their 3 year anniversary will be hard to top though.

  5. Maybe a low week if the top-ranked song is an 8, but personally I really love Spinnin’ On It. idk how to describe it exactly but the song feels very… full? It’s transportive somehow. And I love the video. The aesthetics, the gaybaiting, all of it.

I’m still annoyed when these pre-release tracks are not available to stream, but I suppose it accomplishes its goal in the sense that I’ll definitely be paying attention when the album drops.
