When last we heard from Xodiac, it was in the form of four-member sub-unit UNIT-X early this summer. I had to look up this review because I couldn’t remember the song at all, and that’s probably because it was a cover of an old SS501 track. Now, the group is back as a whole with new single Alibi.
They’ve gone from sweet to suffering with this one, draped in chains and singing over a lurching beat with orchestral traces adding a sense of muted drama. I’ll never say “no” to a dramatic boy group track, but no matter the arrangement the core elements of a song must be strong. Alibi is trussed up with plenty of theatricality but the song itself is forgettable. The verses pass by without any memorable turns and the chorus spikes with energy in search of an equally thrilling melody. I give them props for throwing the whole symphony at the track, but I’ll be surprised if I remember this in several months’ time.

Its the kpop demon hunters “Your Idol” copycat, a month late for halloween. I am surprised that it took this long for kpop trend chasing as they are usually more fast fashion than this.

hmm…I’ll never say no to dramatic boy group songs. I know Kpop Demon Hunters is out there, but the first thing I thought of was ONF’s Bye My Monster. This is not as good, but I think they sound great and it kept me entertained from 3 minutes and 30 seconds. I’ll give it an 8.25
