ATEEZ: A Career In Song Ratings

There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

  1. They truly peaked at Answer, 2025 also was so promising, how the fuck did they downgrade from that to NASA? Sigh, we also didn’t get a solid b-side since Cyberpunk (although Silver Light and Selfish Waltz comes close). Hope their next comeback is great but sadly, KQ A&R really sucks ass

  2. I am not onboard the Wave wave either, but Wonderland is one of my GOAT kpop songs of all time. The best pirate hip hop sea shanty ever. The subtle but there reference to Dvorak 9th symphony. Chef’s kiss. No notes.

  3. This is making me realize despite holding ATEEZ in pretty high regard from just a few of their B-sides, I actually have so little recollection of their singles catalogue lol.

  4. You should do a Risers and Fallers special for those tracks that significantly rose or fell outside your normal R&F window, but aren’t in the legendary songs inauguration!

ATEEZ is one of those groups where even though their duds are particularly ugh and super disappointing, their good stuff is so good that my first thought of them is always “what a great group.” There are a couple of Kpop b-sides that have me by the throat for reasons I don’t fully understand, and “Promise” is one of them.

  5. Is an analysis for ONF and Golden Child impending? Really curious to see how high their rating average given the plethora of 9+ rated songs they have in their discography.

Also how long we we need to wait for a TWS or Riize analysis?

    • The ranking graphic will be ever changing, so I’m open to charting newer groups as long as they have enough time and singles under their belt to warrant it. I’ll probably start out with more veteran artists, though.

  6. Oh, the fact that I do not remember a very many of them speaks for itself. Honestly, Ateez’s style of music was never for me although I occassionally enjoyed some of them like Answer or even Bouncy and I genuinely hope they recover from whatever the mess that was NASA.

  7. Forgot to mention it yesterday but I’m glad you’re doing this series! Love seeing stats and data especially in relation to music, and looking forward to each post giving me the chance to look back at discographies I haven’t reviewed in a while!

Anyways, both TXT and ATEEZ are groups I was a much bigger fan of during their rookie eras and so I’ve seen the same declining trendline as you’ve calculated. I have the same favourite songs from both groups as you do, though I will have to echo the comments section in that I’ve also never been that big on Wave, sorry! Answer reigns supreme for me for ATEEZ title tracks. They really had such a distinct, grand and dramatic sound back then and I really do mourn what we lost :/

  8. I’m intrigued to see that the only time that ateez got three 8.5+ rated songs in a row was in the past two years or so (can’t rmb when those songs were released since I wasn’t a massive fan of em) sad to see the overall decline of their music on the trendline though I agree for myself :’D in my opinion Answer and Treasure would probably be my 10s for title tracks if I had to guess? I also really loved pirate king and thanxx though I’m pretty sure those are objectively worse songs ✨ but yeah those were also earlier on in their career. I’m curious, wasn’t pirate king one of their title (or at least promoted) tracks? Shouldn’t it be on here somewhere?

    • Hm I guess when I was a fresh kpop fan I saw the pirate king performance video and thought that that meant ‘music video’ 😭 my bad
