RAVI: A Career In Song Ratings

There are a number of acts who have debuted in the past few decades and have dozens of song ratings on this blog. I thought it would be fun to lay these ratings out in chronological order, line-graph style, and take a macro view of their careers so far. Then, similar to my “Underrated K-pop” features, I can average their ratings into one mega-score and place them in a pantheon alongside other acts.

As always, this feature has some rules of its own. I’m including any “Song Review” ratings as part of this graph, including Japanese releases and collaborations with one other artist. I’m not including Buried Treasures or solo/sub-unit releases. For the ratings themselves, I’m using the most current number on this blog, so if a song was part of a “Risers and Fallers” or “Legendary Songs Inauguration” post, that’s the rating you’ll see displayed here. That means there will still be a few ratings here and there I find slightly inaccurate, but it’ll mostly reflect my up-to-date feelings.

Finally, these scores are completely subjective. Feel free to agree, disagree and argue (that’s part of the fun!), but know that this chart reflects the opinion of only one person (me).

  1. Oof, never expected Ravi to be here given how less he was featured here. I still sometimes go back to your Still Nirvana review for a good chuckle though, 2019 summer must have been hell for you to crash out like that and that is prolly the only crash out review in the history of your blog 😭

    • That was a very… special summer for him. Throwback to the What a Life review, probably his most scathing review for a mostly innocuous party song and it didn’t stop in the comments section! He has come around on the song a bit though, but wow!

      • Yeah, I read that review too, I can only imagine how oversaturated the chill “vibey” trap sound must have been back then, although then 12-13 year old me LOVED that song 😭 but yeah, I fear we’re seeing the pattern repeat with the NewJeans ripoffs or the “talking over a club beat” trend (or the shouty pots and pans NCT/SKZ ripoffs), at this point, I won’t be surprised if Nick crashes out again (which would be justified tbh) and gives a song with either of those sounds a harsh review and rating sooner or later 😭

  2. The way you have to pick out artists for “enemies of the blog” feels personal, from you to them LOL but like you said someone has to fill that area!
