SHINee ATMOS: In-Depth Album Review – Possibility

POSSIBILITY

A song like Possibility, with its uplifting lyrics, could easily come across as cheesy. Yet something about SHINee’s layered vocal adds gravitas that makes the song feel much more transcendent. It’s not my favorite track on the album, but I think it has the best chorus.

Possibility opens in subdued fashion with the kind of beat we’ve heard so much in K-pop lately. To my ears, it feels like a hybrid of so many recent trends: UK garage, Afrobeats, etc. Maybe these production styles have become so over-saturated that they just start to blend into one sound. As with several songs on this album, I wish the verses were more memorable.

However, all this tiptoeing around is forgiven when we hit the pre-chorus and (especially) the chorus. I really love the melodies here. They’re instantly catchy and have real presence. You can tell someone thought carefully about how to structure this segment rather than just lay down some errant sing-talk and call it a day. Atmospheric synths beautifully trace the edges of this hook, adding an otherworldly touch that further cements this as a SHINee song. It’s really quite stirring.

  1. I adore this one. Probably my favorite after Atmos, mostly due to the transcendent chorus. The chorus synth rhythms are lovely to the ear, and the melody, like Nick said, clearly had real effort put into it to fit with the chords, sound appealing to the ear, and remain catchy at the same time. Just so nice to listen to, especially because the members vocals mesh so well together.

I also love the combo of the house/club beat and the gorgeous guitar in the verses. Personally, I don’t think the verses drag it down too much because I like the melodies. For me it’s a 9 (9, 9, 9, 9)!

  2. The prechorus synths particularly remind me of some early 2010s edm hits, like Don’t You Worry Child – Swedish House Mafia and a bit of Fade Into Darkness – Avicii… I think after Atmos this one’s my favorite on the album! The chorus is so good.

  3. I don’t think I’m much of a club or house person overall, but overall this album is really good despite it not being my exact taste, especially for something released in 2026 :’D

There’s something about this prechorus (especially the second one) that has made me loop this song like crazy, the ooo’s combined with how the piano climbs like that feels like I’m about to start soaring or something 🫠🫠🫠

  4. I don’t know much about SHINee but this album is so good. It’s definitely speaking to the British Millennial within me, reminds me of going clubbing with my friends and driving in the summer with the windows down!
