Song Review: Choi Sungyun (Golden Child’s Y) – Blue Moon

Golden Child may be no more as a group, but occasionally we still get new music from its members. Sadly, the indie nature of this music comes along with clear budget restrictions and limited promotion. Listeners who weren’t already a fan of the group might easily miss a song like Blue Moon.

Blue Moon comes from one of Golden Child’s two main vocalists. Choi Sungyun (stage name Y) made his solo debut late last year with another track in the rock vein, and Blue Moon offers a summer makeover of that sound. It’s a lively, upbeat song driven by a catchy guitar riff and anchored by Sungyun’s always-reliable vocals. It captures a summer vibe quite well, even if nothing about the song feels particularly unique. Structurally, Blue Moon is tight but complete, including a bridge that leads into a dynamic finale. It’s an improvement on his solo debut in every way, though there’s still room to grow and develop his artistic perspective.
