Unexpectedly, the summer of 2026 is becoming the summer of Kara. Just last week, buzzy group RESCENE released a note-for-note cover of their 2008 hit Pretty Girl and now Young Posse have delivered a song built on a sample of the 2009 blockbuster Mr. While it’s nice to be reminded of K-pop classics, I wish the industry’s current producers could find a way to write new music as stunning as these originals rather than simply rip them off.
Young Posse are fresh off releasing one of the year’s worst tracks and have come back to terrorize us with a mixtape. By their very definition, mixtapes offer more artistic freedom and lower risk than a full comeback, which is the perfect set-up for a mess like Mr. 2026. Ladies and gentlemen, we might just have a worse Mr. cover/tribute than that ghastly attempt last year.
But while I have no desire to listen to Mr. 2026 again, I respect it a bit more than a straight-up cover because at least the girls try to do something different. In this case, they’ve sped up the original hook to chipmunk levels, thrown it over a bad trap beat and rattled off the chorus a few times without any real desire to give it the chutzpah it requires. Your assignment today is to go listen to the original and immediately play this revamped version afterward. I can think of no better contrast to represent how K-pop has changed over the past seventeen years. I’ll let you decide whether you think that change was for better or worse.

Pick your poison: trap version of Mister son or drum-and-bass version of Mister daughter 😍
Ngl, I was expecting you to give this version in the 4s or 5s with a scathing review considering your review of the BlingOne’s version of last year cause this is much worse than the other.
But anyways, time to stream the original to cleanse my soul.
5.5 (7, 5, 5, 5) for me. Also, I fear Cortis has a female counterpart, move aside VVS!

Hmm. I wouldn’t blame anyone for calling this an abomination. The processing is fairly obnoxious, but I still think it works. I want more of YP’s louder, more bombastic material as opposed to this mixtape stuff, but the playfulness and the original song’s influence won me over. I love the KARA song, and I think this is a fun twist on it. 7.75

The only thing surprising thing about this sampling is what beat they chose to align the Mr sample with the trap beat. I had expected it two beats later, wait what, oh the down beat is THIS one.

That’s my opinion too. Sure it’s ass but i definitely respect it more than just a straight cover built more for brand strengthening than anything else like the Rescene cover. At this point all i ask is to put down the Mr and Pretty Girl covers Kara had way better songs than them. Like let’s try and approach the greatness of Step for example please.

this song is shit but it’s young posse what do you expect. Kara’s amazing Mr. has been done dirty twice now which is embarrassing as hell. Don’t stream this garbage and just listen to the original.

“terrorize us with a mixtape” hinting at an enemy of the blog there? 😅 (ate that is great though!)
This cover isn’t for me, at first it reminded me of Rebecca Black’s Friday remix but the problem with this is it’s really noisy and overwhelming even for hyperpop/nightcore, definitely a difference in style from the original which is a great song but hey it looks like they had fun with it, a nod to their former seniors as well and I’m all for KARA summer!

i mean its…..certainly an interpolation but idk it just feels a bit disingenuous to compare a digicore (?) esque song sampling a kpop classic from a khh group to the state of kpop at large. its kinda 2 entirely different ballparks. wouldve made more sense for that one mr cover that made it a generic 5th gen song
(n hey if nothing else more ppl r gonna become interested in kara so look on the bright side)

A for spirit, X for execution. I mean I do admire the adventurous spirit, but the execution was kinda terrible. I respected that they did not just make note-to-note cover and sold it as remake, but surely there were better ways to adapt one of the great KPOP classic sound into modern song. The song tastes horrible like eating a bad copycat of shin ramyun from abroad. I hope these recent KPOP release signals the return of old KPOP sounds, kinda tired of the many BRAT or Tyla nachos ruining KPOP these days. God knows boygroups cannot escape from noise or rage rap trend already.

Sounds pretty good, clearly all the people here have incompatible taste.
